Have a unique and fulfilling experience as a Park Guide or Park Ranger with the National Park Service at Governors Island National Monument, located on historic Governors Island in the middle of New York Harbor, just a five minute ferry ride from lower Manhattan. This posting is for a summer seasonal position. Candidates should be able to work from around May 12 until at least late August.
You will have opportunities to hone your skills in the areas of public speaking, research, children's programming, event planning and living history/historic weapons demonstrations.
The most successful applicants have a variety of skills and interests, are highly motivated and enthusiastic, are flexible and must be able to work in a fast-paced team oriented environment.
Conduct guided walking tours and other programs about the history of Governors Island and New York Harbor to a diverse visitor population.
Greet visitors and provide them with information about the park facilities and resources at the national monument and visitor services in Lower Manhattan.
Provide assistance with one-time or annual celebrations related to the programs and themes of the park as well as the operations of special events.
Staff a visitor information desk and sales outlets at park bookstores, operate a cash register and conduct retail transactions.

Must be able to begin work on or about May 12, 2014 and work a 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM schedule, primarily WednesdaySunday with occasional Monday/Tuesday shifts.
Training in interpretation, education and site logistics will be provided by park staff.
Housing is not available.
Overtime for special events and some evening work may be required.
All staff is required to wear a National Park Service uniform. A uniform allowance is provided.
A public transportation benefit may be available.

$15.27/hour. Work will be 40 hours per week with overtime opportunities. A 25% premium is offered for work scheduled on Sundays.
