Dr. Susan Menees

I hold undergraduate degrees in Biology and Psychology and a PhD in Experimental Psychology from the University of California at Irvine. My dissertation focused on spatial vision. After completing my doctorate, I took a postdoctoral position at the University of Freiburg in Germany. I worked there for two years continuing my research interests in spatial vision. I began work at Keene State College in 1995. I was department chair from 2002 to 2008, and 2015 to 2019 and am currently serving as department chair.
My research interests focus on the human senses, particularly vision. During my sabbatical in 2003, I returned to Freiburg, Germany to conduct research on two projects involving visual evoked potentials and the perception of illusory contours. My current interests are in understanding synesthesia. On my sabbatical in 2019, I extended my knowledge of synesthesia, meeting with researchers at the University of Sussex in England. I also like to work with honors students on their research designs and serve as a mentor on their projects.
Outside of work, my interests include spending time with my family and friends, my dog Merlin, and my horse Atlas, traveling, and hiking local trails especially Monadnock.
