Funding Opportunities

Thanks to the generosity of a donor, the Cohen Institute is able to provide funding to support educators doing professional work related to Holocaust and Genocide Studies. This funding can support classroom projects with students, field trips or other activities, and/or participation in Cohen Institute educational outreach programs such as study tours, the biannual Summer Institute for educators, and more. Teachers are expected to use the funds in ways that will positively impact their work in the classroom.

Applications for this award are accepted on a rolling basis each fiscal year beginning on July 1st and decisions will be made based on factors such as the amount of the request, the availability of funds, and the impact on the educator and their students. Once all of the funds allocated for the fiscal year have been awarded, no additional applications will be accepted until the next fiscal year. Funding cannot be awarded retroactively.

For the 2025-2026 academic year, the maximum amount of funding that an applicant can request is $500. Anyone seeking funding at a higher amount would need pre-approval from the Director before applying. If a teacher is seeking funding for multiple programs, they will need to submit separate applicants for each one.

Eligibility and Requirements

All educators are eligible to apply for funding; however, priority will be given to first-time applicants as well as teachers who work in middle or high schools in New England. This award is available by application to educators who do not have existing funding to support their proposed project or activity. The amount of funding is determined at the discretion of the Cohen Institute and must also follow the spending rules for Keene State College.

Please note that the timeline for receiving funds can vary from a few weeks to a few months depending on the nature of the award granted. Submitting an application early can help ensure that funds are available when needed. Additionally, if funds are paid directly to an individual, they may be subject to state and federal taxes.

Teachers who are granted a scholarship through the Cohen Institute will be required to report back about the impact/outcomes of their proposed work.
