Acceptance of Courses Completed with Online Providers
Please note: This paperwork is only required if there is a course other than what is listed in the table above.
The following process must be taken by students interested in having an online course from an unaccredited provider (ex. StraighterLine, Study.com, and Sophia Learning) considered for Keene State College credit. Please note that non-KSC credits applied toward degree requirements and not earned from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning cannot exceed a total of 32 credits. These credits include, but are not limited to, AP credit, CLEP, DANTE, CTE, ACE-approved, IB and Cambridge courses. Any credit received through online course providers would be counted toward this limit (KSC Credit Transfer policy).
Please complete the process below to be reviewed for credit:
- Print and complete the top section of Keene State College Petition for Credit Acceptance form found on the Registrar’s Office website. The materials listed below must be attached to the Petition for Credit Acceptance at the time of submission for consideration.
- Obtain and attach a printout of the full course description from the American Council on Education (ACE) website (Note: If the course cannot be found on their American Council on Education website, the course will not be considered for credit).
The printout must include the following information: The name of the organization providing the course The length of the course in hours [At KSC 15 hours = 1 credit] The recommended level of the course (ex. lower-division)
The full course description including:
- Course objectives
- Course learning outcomes
- General topics covered
The instruction and assessment information including:
- Methods of assessment
- Minimum passing score (this must be a numeric value)
- Obtain and attach a printout of the full course syllabus.
- Have an official transcript sent to the KSC Registrar’s office. Unofficial transcripts will not be accepted.
- Send all required materials to the Registrar’s office.
Once all required documents have been given to the Registrar’s office, the information will be distributed to the appropriate Department Chair(s) in whose department the course(s) was taken. They will assess the course content to see if it meets the same requirements as the existing Keene State College course. As required by KSC policy, the Department Chair will also ensure that the grade received for the course (ex. passing = a grade of 70 or higher) would equate to a grade of C or better in the KSC course. 2
