Awards and Recognition
The Cohen Institute’s annual awards recognize excellence in Holocaust and genocide studies scholarship, leadership, and teaching. Applications and nominations are accepted during the early spring, and our annual awards ceremony takes place in April during Genocide Awareness Month.
Charles Hildebrandt Holocaust Studies Award
This annual award for undergraduate students honors Charles Hildebrandt, Keene State College Professor Emeritus of Sociology and founder of the (then) Holocaust Resource Center in 1983. It is given in recognition of excellence in Holocaust Studies.
Susan J. Herman Award for Leadership in Holocaust and Genocide Awareness
This annual award for undergraduate students honors the work and inspiration of Dr. Susan J. Herman, Professor of Management at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, and Professor Emerita of Management at Keene State College. Dr. Herman served the College, the Cohen Center, and New Hampshire through a lifetime of advocacy, education, curriculum development and leadership training.
Award for Excellence in Teaching
This annual award recognizes a teacher who has made outstanding contributions to Holocaust and genocide education in New Hampshire. Education is vital to building a world free of antisemitism, intolerance, and hatred, and this award spotlights teachers who are building a better world through their positive impact on their students, their schools, and, by extension, their communities.
