2025 Kristallnacht Remembrance: Who Will Remain
Each year, the community in Keene comes together to remember Kristallnacht, a pogrom (wave of antisemitic violence) that erupted in Nazi Germany and its recently incorporated territories in 1938. We recall the destructive events that took place and the people affected by them, and we also stand together with local leaders as we recommit ourselves to being a community that stands against hatred and violence.
This year’s event will feature an innovative performance called “Who Will Remain,” which is traveling the globe. This program features vocal and instrumental music, literary and historical texts, which are artistically interwoven with an audio recording of a Holocaust survivor’s oral history. Curated songs and poetry explore themes of life-interrupted, fear, resilience, and hope, guiding the audience through the experience of those identified as "the other." The program creates an immersive emotional journey that invites audiences to reflect on the fragility of freedom and the unyielding strength of the human spirit.
The performers include:
- Angelynne Hinson, soprano, and Amy Lieberman, mezzo soprano
- Christina Wright-Ivanova, pianist (Keene State College, Professor of Music)
- Peter Josephson, speaker (St. Anselm's College, Professor of Politics)
- Sam Bergman, violist (Executive Director, Apple Hill Center for Chamber Music)
- See bottom of the page for artist biographies.
