Exhibit Symposium:Yosooi no atae: Fashion and Vernacular Photography in 20th Century Japan
Free & Open to the Public
The college will host a symposium for the exhibition Yosooi no atae: Fashion and Vernacular Photography in 20th Century Japan currently on display at the Thorne Sagendorph Art Gallery through December 9, 2023. Featured speakers will be Ayaka Iida, fashion historian & assistant curator of the Japan Society of NYC, and art historian Dr. Lucile Druet of Kansai Gaidai University, Japan. Like the exhibition, the symposium will explore fashion and everyday life in Modern Japan through found photography (e.g., snapshots, studio portraits, and family albums) in order to provide a broader understanding of Japanese visual, cultural, and social history. Following the symposium, curator-led tours of the exhibit will offered at the Thorne Gallery.
The program is sponsored by:
