KSC Seminar Series: The Hungry Owl Pantry... More Than Just Ramen Noodles
Presented by Dr. Amanda Hickey and Prof. Dena Shields, Public Health: Food insecurity has emerged as a major public health concern among college students. The Hungry Owl (THO), Keene State College’s on-campus student-run food pantry, was created to combat this issue and provides food and personal care items for students, faculty, and staff. THO has grown tremendously over the past few years in terms of student volunteers, space, offerings, funding support, and individuals who utilize the resource. This presentation will highlight the research that was conducted to support THO and some of the initiatives that have been implemented to lower the stress in our campus population of having to find money for necessities.
