Putnam Theater Screening - Shiva Baby
This week, we at the Putnam Theater are elated to present SHIVA BABY, the acclaimed feature debut by Emma Seligman, a tense, darkly humorous (but really mostly tense) drama winning hearts the world over! The film follows the ever-escalating trajectory of the uncomfortable as it presents to us the story of Danielle, a young woman making her way through a hazily defined college degree when she’s essentially dragged by her parents to sit shiva for a recently deceased relative. As the situation deteriorates, she finds herself out of her social depth as she’s interrogated by distant relations, shown up by her suddenly-arrived ex-girlfriend, and generally made to balance a bevy of annoyances that seek to undermine her sanity at all costs. However, her most dangerous complication is the surprise arrival at the funeral service of her sugar daddy Max, whose presence threatens to unravel her relationships, sending her into a desperate balancing act as she tries to keep her family from finding out how she knows him. This film is one of the year’s most impressive debuts, a riveting exercise in making bad situations worse, and a fascinating exploration of the hellishness of keeping secrets. It’s been a long time coming, but we’re proud to be able to screen it for you. SHIVA BABY screens Friday, Nov. 12th, Saturday, Nov. 13th, and Sunday Nov. 14th at 7:00pm every night, only at the Putnam Theater! Tickets are $2 for KSC students, $4 for faculty and seniors, and $5 for the public. As always, Film Society members get in free to every screening!
