Canvas Gradebook & Canvas Assignments
Keene State College students were asked how important it was for them to have the Canvas gradebook be up to date and accurate in a survey this past semester. Student responses revealed 96% of them view this as either “most important” or “important”! Your students are expecting the gradebook in Canvas to be correct and this session will help you meet that expectation. We will start with creating assignments in Canvas and show you how to capture your grading strategy. Some instructors prefer to tally total points in a course while others use weighted percentages. Some courses are heavily project-based and some instructors would like to drop the lowest quiz score. All of these strategies are easily accomplished in Canvas …if you know how! We will cover: points vs percentages; assignment types; graded vs ungraded; and even give you a glimpse of how Canvas can be used to monitor student’s progress with learning objectives. In addition, we will discuss how to provide feedback for students on assignments using the SpeedGrader tool. Our discussion will continue in the gradebook and you will learn how to manage the grade columns in a way that works best for you! We’ll even show you how to override the final grade in Canvas to make adjustments for extra credit work!
