Elementary Methods II

Course Summary: This course explores current best practices for teaching Math and Science. Students learn practical approaches to creating literacy-rich learning environments in which children develop the knowledge, skills, and dispositions for mathematical and scientific thinking. Standards-based unit planning with an emphasis on student learning and reflection on teaching are the foci during the extended supervised field experience.Classroom management skills, including behavioral considerations, reflection, and techniques are explored and applied in the elementary classroom.

Student expectations include: Observing and working with a classroom teacher; teaching from projects that are developed in sync with topics from the teachers.

Cooperating teachers are expected to complete mid-semester summative evaluations, dispositions and conferences with students and complete final evaluations and dispositions on Tk20.
