Course Summary: The focus of this course is integrating literacy, Social Studies, and the arts. Students are exposed to practical approaches to creating literacy-rich environments in which children can grow and develop as listeners, speakers, readers, and writers. Students are provided with an overview of literacy development.
Skills developed in Methods I include writing objectives, writing lesson plans which are to be submitted to cooperating teachers, reading aloud to a whole class, managing transitions, researching background knowledge for lessons, identifying standards, beginning classroom management skills, and the development of a preprofessional attitude. Student assignments include reading aloud, an author-illustrator project ( read aloud #2), a literacy project, and a Social Studies and Arts Integration project.
Cooperating teachers are expected to complete summative clinical evaluations, disposition forms and conferences with students at mid-semester and at the end of the semester. The final clinical summative evaluation and dispositions form must be completed on Tk20.
