Financing Study Away
Many study away opportunities are comparable in cost to studying on campus, making them accessible to a wide range of students. Several programs have tuition and fees similar to a semester at KSC.
Your KSC financial aid package can be applied to most semester study away programs, and in some cases, to summer programs. The Student Financial Services Office can help you understand how your financial aid package applies to your specific program.
Scholarships for study away are also available from national organizations, program providers, and KSC Financial Aid.
How Costs Work
- Tuition & Fees: Many programs match KSC tuition; check each approved program’s approximate cost listing.
- Additional Expenses: Plan for items like flights, housing, meals, books, local transportation, visas, and insurance (varies by program/location).
- Financial Aid: KSC aid typically applies to semester programs (some summer eligibility exists). Meet with Financial Aid early.
- Scholarships: Combine national, provider, and KSC awards to reduce out-of-pocket costs.
Budgeting Tips
- Create a program budget that includes tuition/fees, housing & meals, airfare, local transport, course supplies, insurance, and personal expenses.
- Compare multiple destinations—cost of living can vary significantly.
- Ask the GEO coordinator about cost comparisons across approved programs.
- Apply for scholarships early—deadlines may be before program applications are due.
