It’s 1973, and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) has not been identified for Vietnam veterans, so no one really understands what Roy is experiencing as he tries to rebuild his life among his family and friends. Playwright James McClure set this dark-comedy in a small Texas Panhandle town, dividing the story between two one-act plays: “Lone Star” and “Laundry and Bourbon.” The first provides the male perspective and the second provides the female perspective; together they present a humorous yet poignant story of the effects war has on soldiers and those left behind. As these sometimes insensitive and clueless characters stumble through the petty hurdles of day-to-day life, they seek what we all seek: hope and assurances that tomorrow will prove there is plenty for which they can give thanks.
