A Formula for Success

The Mathematics Department, located on the second floor of the Science Center, is known for its close-knit community. Faculty and students attend professional conferences, collaborate on math-themed activities, engage in research, present research both on and off campus, and bring an appreciation for mathematics to the local community. Students work as peer tutors in the Math Center, where math majors and non-majors can drop in to get help with introductory courses.

Not sure what you can do with a math major? Our graduates pursue successful careers in the sciences, business, and education.

The math major balances experiences in both pure and applied mathematics. Check out our math courses in the course catalog.

The options for degrees in mathematics are flexible and student-focused, preparing you for many different paths: becoming a math teacher, furthering your mathematics education in graduate school, or applying your problem-solving skills in a variety of other fields. Faculty advisors can help you find the path that is right for you!

Degree Options

The BA in mathematics provides a solid foundation in analytic reasoning and problem solving. This degree can be combined with a second major (in elementary or secondary education or another field) or can provide a path to a degree-in-three.

The BS in mathematics offers additional breadth and depth of knowledge of mathematics beyond the course of study required for the BA. As part of the BS in mathematics, you will choose a minor in a related field to gain experience applying mathematics in other contexts.
