At Keene State College we believe in the concept of freedom of access to higher education. Through the granting of financial assistance, Keene State can help ensure such access to students whose resources would otherwise be insufficient to meet the costs of a college education.

Student Financial Services (SFS) administers and processes all types of financial assistance and billing functions. This area operates with a philosophy that embraces a commitment both to students and to the institution. Financial aid means opportunity. A major objective of the financial aid staff is to ensure access to higher education and to the associated learning and personal growth for those who might otherwise lack the financial resources.

The College currently distributes $35 million annually in grants, scholarships, loans, and employment awards to its students. In selecting aid recipients, the College places primary emphasis on demonstrated financial need. Consideration for many programs is also given to academic performance. Priority in many funds is given to students who file the FAFSA by the College's March 1 deadline.

The comprehensive, fully coordinated scholarship and assistance programs include three basic types of aid: gift assistance, loan assistance, and work assistance. The student aid programs administered by the College include federal, institutional, and state funds as well as private dollars. It is the responsibility of the aid administrators to relate all resources to the needs of the College's students.

SFS also serves as an educational and informational resource for students, parents, scholarship and loan agencies, and high schools through counseling and consultation. The staff conducts research to determine the effectiveness of the financial aid program in meeting both student and institutional needs.
