National Language (ITW-101)

We confront various U.S. language issues: the importance of Spanish, bilingual education, Black English, Asian immigrants, English, gender and language, second language education, technology, taboo words, storytelling, etc. Readings by Gloria Anzaldua, James Baldwin, Amy Tan, and others. Students write a 15-20-page paper on a language issue of their choice.
