Soc Now:global Social Problems (ISSOC-125)

In an increasingly globalized world, it is inevitable that many of the social problems which have in the past been confined to national boundaries will assume global character. This course introduces some of the central problems humans face around the world, including environmental degradation and sustainable consumption, effects of international development and global aid, poverty, modernization, and the spread of infectious disease. The course will seek to explore and critically analyze the enduring influence of social change and social justice using the methodologies of social science and a range of theoretical perspectives.
