The Ancient Near East (IHHIST-399)

This course will examine the development of civilization in southwestern Asia and northeastern Africa from its emergence in the fourth millennium before the Common Era to the rise of Greece and Rome in the first. The two major societies of the region, the Mesopotamian and Egyptian, will be studied, as well as others in their political, commercial, and cultural spheres.
