The Keene Endowment Association (KEA) was founded in 1957 as an independent charitable entity to provide assistance to deserving students at Keene State College. The KEA operates as a trust, separate from Keene State College and the University System of New Hampshire. The fund principal is invested in perpetuity by the Trustees of the KEA, and income is used in accordance with donor wishes.

Persons or organizations interested in establishing a fund, or adding to one of the existing funds, are invited to contact the Office of Development at 603-358-2372.

Fred L. Barry '36 Graduate Fellowship Endowment
In 1996, this fellowship was created in memory of Fred L. Barry '36 HD'80, who served in many capacities at the College during his long tenure (1948-77). Fellowships will provide recognition and financial assistance to students enrolled in a graduate level program at Keene State College who display a strong interest in administrative leadership or innovative approaches to their graduate field of study. The award will provide financial support for special projects which may be incorporated in, but are not restricted to, the culminating activities of a student's graduate program.

David Hatch Battenfeld Memorial Award Endowment
This award was established by the family and friends of David H. Battenfeld, a distinguished humanist and teacher at Keene State College. The purpose of the fund is to provide recognition and financial support to a student who demonstrates a serious interest in the humanities. Applicants must be of junior, senior, or graduate standing. Preference shall be given to returning adult learners.

Frank H. Blackington Jr. Language Proficiency Award Endowment
This endowment was established in 1964 by the family and friends of Frank H. Blackington Jr., who was a member of the Keene State College faculty for 41 years and who specialized in foreign languages. Consideration for this award shall be given to seniors who demonstrate exceptional foreign language proficiency. Recipients of this award shall be selected by the Keene State College Modern Language Department faculty in consultation with the Vice President of Academic Affairs and the Office of Student Financial Services.

Frank H. Blackington Jr. Memorial Scholarship Endowment
Established in 1987 by the family and friends of Frank H. Blackington Jr., a member of the KSC faculty who specialized in foreign languages. Consideration for this annual scholarship shall be to students who are a junior class standing or higher and have demonstrated proficiency in foreign language studies. Preference will be given to foreign language majors.

Class of 1958 Endowed Scholarship for Teacher Education
The Class of 1958 Endowed Scholarship for Teacher Education provides recognition and financial assistance to students enrolled in the Teacher Education program. Consideration for this scholarship shall be given to matriculated students of Junior or Senior status who have been formally admitted in the Teacher Education program. Eligible recipients must demonstrate financial need, have a GPA of 3.0 or better, and demonstrate a commitment to community service. Each scholarship shall be for one academic year and may be renewed according to the eligibility requirements outlined above.

Costin Family Scholarship Endowment
In 1996 this scholarship was created with gifts from members of the Costin family in commemoration of the long-standing relationship between the family and the College. Scholarships will provide recognition and financial assistance to full-time education majors who have demonstrated academic achievement and financial need. Preference will be given to adult learner students who have overcome obstacles to return to school.

Giovannangeli Family Scholarship Endowment
This endowment was established in 1988 by the Giovannangeli family and their friends, in commemoration of the long-standing relationship between the family and the College. Applicants must be full-time students of junior or senior standing who are New Hampshire residents and who have demonstrated outstanding academic promise. Preference will be given to students who have been accepted into the teacher certification program. The committee will consider such qualities as financial need, academic excellence, qualities of leadership, and promise of future success.

Leona Day Henderson '18 Scholarship Endowment
This endowment was established in 1981 with a gift from Warren Henderson in memory of his wife Leona Day Henderson '18. Two scholarships are awarded annually to a junior and senior who are New Hampshire residents, show outstanding promise as teachers and have demonstrated academic excellence and leadership. Applicants must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.2 and be accepted into the teacher certification program. Given continued eligibility, a student may have this scholarship renewed.

Marion Frost Hudson '53 Memorial Scholarship Endowment
This endowment was established in 1975 through a bequest made by Doris Frost Hudson in memory of her sister Marion, an instructor in the English Department at Keene State College for 35 years. Students who are enrolled in an English-related curriculum are eligible for this scholarship.

Peter H. Jenkins Memorial Scholarship Endowment
This endowment was established by colleagues, friends, and family of Peter H. Jenkins, Ph.D., Professor Emeritus of Management, in honor of his 25 years of service to the College. This scholarship is to recognize a student whose major course of study is management or some individualized major which includes management. This full- or part-time student must be entering his/her senior year as an undergraduate or be a graduating senior who plans to continue on with graduate studies. Criteria is based on merit and financial need. The issue of merit will include grade point average as well as those qualities which Dr. Jenkins taught and lived - commitment to excellence, integrity, concern for humanity, and his famous "do something even if it's wrong" philosophy.

Michael D. Keller Memorial Award Endowment
This fund was established by faculty, students, and friends of Michael D. Keller, who was Dean of Arts and Humanities and a beloved teacher. The purpose of this fund is to support undergraduate students in the visual and performing arts such as dance, drama, and music.

KSC Alumni Association Scholarship Endowment
This scholarship was established with funds from the Keene State College Alumni Association. The purpose of this endowment is to provide scholarships equal to the cost of in-state tuition. These scholarships are available to students who demonstrate financial need and have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better. One annual scholarship shall be awarded to a sophomore each year. Preference will be given to the children of Keene State College alumni.

Family Assistance Scholarship Endowment
This scholarship was developed to provide financial assistance to Keene State College students who show academic promise. Preference will be given to those applicants who have family members also enrolled at the College in the award year.

Student Memorial Endowed Scholarship Endowment
This endowment was established in 1976 by the Student Life Committee in memory of Valarie Shank and all other students who have died while attending Keene State College. The purpose of this fund is to provide scholarships to worthy students with demonstrated financial need. Students must have at least a 2.5 cumulative grade point average, have been an active member of a recognized student organization for one year, and at some time held an office in that organization.

LeVine Mellion Parent of the Year Award Endowment
In 1982, three KSC graduates, Bruce, Paul and Joan LeVine Mellion, along with their brother Dan, established the LeVine Mellion Parents Award to honor their parents, Dr. and Mrs. Gilbert LeVine Mellion. This award is presented annually at the Spring Honors Convocation to a parent or parents of a Keene State College student in recognition of their support given in the spirit of love, commitment and encouragement toward their son or daughter's education.

Dorothy E. Potter '45 Memorial Scholarship Endowment
In 1958 Professor Ella O. Keene established the Dorothy Elizabeth Potter Award for Proficiency in English. In 1992 the award was developed into an endowed scholarship through a gift from the brothers and sister of Dorothy E. Potter, who graduated from Keene Teachers College in 1945 and taught in New Hampshire until her death in 1957. The scholarship will be awarded to full-time juniors or seniors who have chosen English as their major course of study and who intend to teach English after graduation. Applicants must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and demonstrate financial need. Given continued eligibility, a student may have this scholarship renewed.

Julia McHale Redfern Performing Arts Memorial Award Endowment
This endowment was established in 1989 as a memorial to his mother by former Keene State College President Leo F. Redfern and his wife Edmonde to recognize and reward excellence and achievement in the performing arts. One award will be presented annually based on recommendations from any appropriate discipline and coordinated by the Dean of Arts and Humanities.

Melvin Rosensaft Scholarship Endowment
This scholarship was established in honor of Melvin Rosensaft by family members, colleagues, friends and the Markem Corporation. Melvin taught at Keene State College in the early 1980s. He made an outstanding contribution to the College and the community by providing a strong leadership program within the Management Department at Keene State College. This scholarship will provide recognition and financial assistance to juniors or seniors majoring in management who have demonstrated academic achievement.

Margaret Ellen Siegert '84 Memorial Scholarship Endowment
This endowment was established in 1989 by family and friends of "Meg" to assist students who wish to study for a semester or a year abroad. Applicants must be juniors or seniors with at least a 2.5 cumulative grade point average, be majoring in computer science, management (with a concentration in marketing), and/or psychology, and who displays academic excellence, leadership ability and self motivation. The award committee will look with favor upon applicants who have demonstrated interest in travel, new cultures, improving interpersonal skills, expanding awareness of international business, etc.

Sigma Lambda Chi Scholarship Endowment
This scholarship was established by the Keene State College chapter of the Sigma Lambda Chi fraternity in 1986. The purpose of the fund is to provide meaningful scholarship assistance to deserving undergraduate students who are active members of the Sigma Lambda Chi community. Eligible students must be enrolled full time, have completed one full semester of active membership (including dues), and have a grade point average of 2.0 or higher. Preference shall be given to students who demonstrate outstanding participation in Sigma Lambda Chi.

Frederick J. Simmons Scholarship Endowment
This endowment was established in 1977 by Joanna S. Richardson, in honor of her brother, who taught at Keene State College for many years. Eligible students must have demonstrated excellence in academics and have financial need.

The David B. Staples Family Endowed Scholarship
This fund was established in 1983 by David B. Staples '55 and Elizabeth Walker Staples '51 in loving memory of their son. Awards will provide financial assistance to deserving students who have demonstrated outstanding promise as teachers and who have been accepted as majors into the elementary education program. Eligibility shall also be extended to students enrolled in a program leading to a degree in nursing. Applicants must be New Hampshire residents of junior or senior class standing who display academic excellence and leadership ability. Recipients are eligible to receive the award for two years provided they continue to achieve a grade point average of 2.5 or better.

Teacher Education Scholarship Endowment
This endowment, initially established by members of the class of 1941 at their fiftieth class reunion, has subsequently been "adopted" by the classes of '42, '43 and '44. Undergraduate students majoring in teacher education are eligible. Preference will be given to those who have demonstrated experience in student activities at the college, an ability to attain academic proficiency, an interest in and desire to work with school-age children, and financial need.

Harry C. Tebbetts Scholarship Endowment
In 1971 this endowment was created with a generous gift from F. Marion Tebbetts Wood '26 HD'90 in memory of her father. Students who have demonstrated excellence in scholastic achievement and who have financial need are eligible for this scholarship.

Aubrey S. Thomas '62 Biology Proficiency Award Endowment
In 1990, Aubrey Thomas Jr. '62 established this endowed award. This award is to be made to a senior who has demonstrated scholastic proficiency in biology courses (including ecology and environmental sciences), has scholastic adequacy in the remainder of his/her academic pursuits, and has shown personal growth. Eligible students must have attended Keene State College for a minimum of six semesters and been a major in Biology, Ecology, or Environmental Science for a minimum of four semesters.

Lydia Pellerin Tolman '47 Memorial Scholarship Endowment
This fund was established in 1987 to honor Mrs. Tolman, a member of the Class of 1947. It was given in recognition of her belief in quality education and her desire that a Keene State College education continue to be affordable for future generations of students. Applicants must be full-time students of junior or senior class standing who have demonstrated outstanding promise as teachers and who have been accepted into a program of teacher certification. In general, the committee will consider such qualities as financial need, academic excellence, and promise of future success in teaching.

Norma W. Walker '51 Scholarship Endowment
This scholarship endowment was established in 1997 by Norma Wright Walker '51, MEd '59 as an expression of her strong devotion to the importance of reading education. Consideration will be given to matriculated students enrolled in a graduate program in education at Keene State with preference given to students who have completed at least six credits in their program. The scholarship can be applied toward the tuition for an appropriate KSC graduate level course related to reading, children's literature, or language arts (if the focus of the course is on reading); or it can be applied to an independent study internship or graduate project with a primary focus on reading.

Captain Michael J. Watters '86 Memorial Scholarship Endowment
This fund was established by family and friends to perpetuate the memory and qualities of Michael J. Watters '86, who was lost at sea on June 10, 1990, while on a training flight with the Strike Fighter Squadron 106. This award shall be given to a junior who is able to influence others through his or her example to achieve positive goals which are beneficial to the spirit of community at Keene State College. Preference will be given to full-time students with a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or greater.

Maxfield L. Young Memorial Scholarship Endowment
This endowment was established in 1957 in memory of Maxfield L. Young, son of President and Mrs. Lloyd Young, who was killed in an automobile accident. The purpose of this fund is to provide scholarship aid to worthy, full-time students who need financial assistance to continue in college.
