Keene Endowment Association Scholarships
The Keene Endowment Association (KEA) was founded in 1957 as an independent charitable entity to provide assistance to deserving students at Keene State College. The KEA operates as a trust, separate from Keene State College and the University System of New Hampshire. The fund principal is invested in perpetuity by the Trustees of the KEA, and income is used in accordance with donor wishes.
Persons or organizations interested in establishing a fund, or adding to one of the existing funds, are invited to contact the Office of Development at 603-358-2372.
Ann C. Peters Scholarship
The Ann C. Peters Scholarship was established as a gift of Ann C. Peters, Ed. Dept., Professor Emerita of Mathematics and first recipient of the KSC Alumni Association’s Distinguished Teaching Award, in remembrance of her twenty-five years of service to the College. This scholarship is established to provide financial assistance to full-time students of Keene State College who have chosen Mathematics as their major course of study or have chosen Elementary Education with Mathematics as a minor. Given continued eligibility, a student may receive the Peters Scholarship Award in consecutive years.
Atha Adams Scholarship
Established by Janice Adams Lessard ‘68 in recognition of her mother Atha Adams. Atha worked as a Registered Nurse during World War 2 and after, all the while diligently saving, a dollar at a time toward her daughter’s college education. This was much to the displeasure of her husband who thought becoming a plumber would be the best vocation for his daughter. The purpose of this endowment shall be to provide recognition and financial assistance to students enrolled in the Teacher Education program at Keene State College who are specializing in science.
Aubrey Thomas ‘62 Biology Proficiency Award
In 1990, Aubrey Thomas Jr. ‘62 established this endowed award. This award is to be made to a senior who has demonstrated scholastic proficiency in biology courses (including ecology and environmental sciences), has scholastic adequacy in the remainder of his/her academic pursuits, and has shown personal growth. Eligible students must have attended Keene State College for a minimum of six semesters and been a major in Biology, Ecology, or Environmental Science for a minimum of four semesters.
Barbara A Rousseau Scholarship
The Barbara A. Rousseau will provide recognition and financial assistance to graduate students pursuing a master’s degree from the Educator Preparation Program or its successor. The initial principal of this fund, $75,000, was contributed to Keene State College for the above-stated purpose by the estate of Barbara A. Rousseau. Consideration for this scholarship award shall be given to students who have demonstrated financial need and who are pursuing a master’s degree from the Educator Preparation Program or its successor program. Recipients of this scholarship shall be selected through the College’s scholarship process as overseen by The Office of Financial Aid or its equivalent. The scholarship shall be awarded on an annual basis.
CALL Wonderment Scholarship Fund
The CALL Wonderment Scholarship Fund was initiated by a number of engaged “Cheshire Academy for Lifelong Learning” participants, who realized what a “great deal” they received at Keene State College for the wonderful lifelong learning opportunities provided through the CALL Program . In turn, and as a way of saying thank you, they wanted to provide assistance for current KSC undergraduate students in the way of financial aid.
Captain Michael J. Watters ‘86 Memorial Scholarship
This fund was established by family and friends to perpetuate the memory and qualities of Michael J. Watters ‘86, who was lost at sea on June 10, 1990, while on a training flight with the Strike Fighter Squadron 106. This award shall be given to a junior who is influential to others through his or her example to achieve positive goals that are beneficial to the spirit of community at Keene State College. Preference will be given to full-time students with a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or greater.
Class of 1957 Scholarship for Teacher Education
Class of 1957 Endowed Scholarship for Teacher Education was created to honor and celebrate the Class of 1957’s 55th Reunion in June 2012. The purpose of this endowment shall be to provide recognition and financial assistance to students enrolled in the Teacher Education program at Keene State College. Consideration for this scholarship shall be given to matriculated students of Junior or Senior status who have been formally admitted in the Teacher Education program. Eligible recipients must demonstrate financial need and have a GPA of 2.5 or better.
Class of 1958 Scholarship for Teacher Education
The Class of 1958 Endowed Scholarship for Teacher Education provides recognition and financial assistance to students enrolled in the Teacher Education program. Consideration for this scholarship shall be given to matriculated students of Junior or Senior status who have been formally admitted in the Teacher Education program. Eligible recipients must demonstrate financial need, have a GPA of 3.0 or better, and demonstrate a commitment to community service. Each scholarship shall be for one academic year and may be renewed according to the eligibility requirements outlined above.
Class of 1960 Scholarship
The Class of 1960 Endowed Scholarship was created as a gift by the Class of 1960 in celebration of their 50th anniversary of graduation from Keene Teachers College. The endowment provides financial assistance to qualified full time students at Keene State College who have demonstrated financial need, with preference given to students majoring in education who are residents of New Hampshire.
Class of 1962 Scholarship
The Class of 1962 Endowed Scholarship was created as a gift by the Class of 1962 in celebration of their 50th anniversary of graduation. The endowment provides recognition and financial assistance to full time KSC students who show financial need, maintain good academic standing with at least a 2.5 GPA, and are or may be interested in becoming an education major.
Class of 1964 Teacher Education Scholarship
This fund was created by the Class of 1964 to provide recognition and financial assistance to undergraduate students majoring in education.
Costin Family Scholarship
In 1996 this scholarship was created with gifts from members of the Costin family in commemoration of the long-standing relationship between the family and the College. Scholarships will provide recognition and financial assistance to full-time Education majors who have demonstrated academic achievement and financial need. Preference will be given to adult learner students who have overcome obstacles to return to school.
David B. Staples Family Scholarship
This fund was established in 1983 by David B. Staples ‘55 and Elizabeth Walker Staples ‘51 in loving memory of their son. Awards will provide financial assistance to deserving students who have demonstrated outstanding promise as teachers and who have been accepted as majors into the Elementary Education program. Eligibility shall also be extended to students enrolled in a program leading to a degree in Nursing. Applicants must be New Hampshire residents of junior or senior class standing who display academic excellence and leadership ability. Recipients are eligible to receive the award for two years provided they continue to achieve a grade point average of 2.5 or better.
David C. Staples Excellence in Nursing Scholarship
This Scholarship was established at Keene State College with a gift from David Boynton Staples, Class of 1955 and the late Elizabeth (Betsy) Walker Staples, Class of 1951, of Concord, NH and Hernando, FL, to commemorate the 35th anniversary of the graduation of their son, David C. Staples, from Concord High School. This scholarship is a memorial tribute to David Charles Staples who was a practicing certified nursing assistant studying to be a licensed practical nurse-with the goal of becoming a registered nurse-until his tragic death in 1983 at the age of twenty-four. The scholarship provides recognition and financial assistance to deserving students of KSC who are New Hampshire residents and have been accepted into the College’s Nursing program. Annually, at least two recipients are identified: one based on academic excellence, selecting the student with the highest GPA; and the other based on clinical acumen, nominated by the Nursing director and faculty. Preference shall be given to graduates from Concord High School in Concord, NH.
David Hatch Battenfeld and Barbara Bagby Battenfeld Memorial Award
This award was established by the family and friends of David H. Battenfeld, a distinguished humanist and teacher at Keene State College. The purpose of the fund is to provide recognition and financial support to a student who demonstrates a serious interest in the humanities. Applicants must be of junior, senior, or graduate standing. Preference shall be given to returning adult learners.
David R. Leinster Memorial Scholarship
This fund was created in fond rememberence of David R Leinster by Dr Travis M Hodgdon ‘94 and Dr Gretchen A Hodgdon. The fund shall provide recognition and financial assistance to students pursuing an undergraduate degree in History.
Delmar Ogg SPDI Scholarship
Dr. Delmar “Del” Ogg was a member of the Technology, Design and Safety faculty at Keene State College from 1971 to 2006. His 1987 PhD dissertation was entitled, Development of a High Technology Curriculum for Industrial Technology at Keene State College, and his research of technical competencies desired by manufacturing sector employers influenced the program that evolved into the Sustainable Product Design and Innovation (SPDI) major. This fund is named in Dr. Ogg’s honor by Karl Dale Krantz ‘00 and family, in recognition of Dr. Ogg’s outstanding teaching and mentorship and his influence on Dale’s career path. This scholarship is offered to provide recognition and financial assistance to incoming first-year students who have indicated interest in the Sustainable Product Design and Innovation Program.
Don Baldini Music Scholarship
This fund was created in honor of the retirement of Professor Don Baldini, Artist in Residence for 25 years at Keene State College. The purpose of this fund shall be to provide recognition and financial assistance to music students. Consideration for this scholarship shall be given to full time undergraduate string instrument students majoring in music or have been formally accepted into the music program at KSC. Students must have and maintain a GPA of at least 3.0 in music courses.
Dorothea A. Kitlan Scholarship
The Dorothea A. Kitlan Scholarship Fund provides financial assistance to KSC students who need assistance to complete their education, provided that no child of any member of the faculty or administration shall be eligible for the scholarship.
Dorothy E. Potter ‘45 Memorial Scholarship
In 1958 Professor Ella O. Keene established the Dorothy Elizabeth Potter Award for Proficiency in English. In 1992 the award was developed into an endowed scholarship through a gift from the brothers and sister of Dorothy E. Potter, a graduate from Keene Teachers College in 1945 and teacher in New Hampshire until her death in 1957. The scholarship will be awarded to full-time juniors or seniors who have chosen English as their major course of study and who intend to teach English after graduation. Applicants must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and demonstrate financial need. Given continued eligibility, a student may have this scholarship renewed.
Dr Gary Bonitatibus Memorial Scholarship
The fund was created by Elaine Bonitatibus in loving memory to honor his dedication and service to Keene State College and it’s students. The purpose of this fund shall be to provide recognition and financial assistance to full time matriculated students who are psychology majors or minors with a demonstrated financial need.
Dr. Frederick J. Simmons Fund
This scholarship was established in 1977 by Joanna S. Richardson, in honor of her brother, who taught at KSC for many years. Eligible students must have demonstrated excellence in academics and have financial need.
Dr. Howard W. Smith ‘42 MD,DMD,FACS Scholarship
Learning, teaching, and service to others are core tenets that have guided Dr. Smith’s life and career. “Most of a profession’s technical skills come from outstanding teachers, and the expectation is that the student must repay the favor; not to that teacher but to some future student. The purpose of this endowment shall be to provide recognition and financial assistance to outstanding undergraduate and graduate students enrolled at Keene State College. Consideration for this award is based on financial need and academic achievement and awarded to a Full-time traditional or non-traditional undergraduate or graduate students; who may be a rising or transferring sophomores, juniors, seniors, or graduate students; who have a minimum GPA of 2.5.
Dr. Rose Kundanis Scholarship in Journalism
The fund was established by Rose M. Kundanis, Ph.D. upon her retirement from the Journalism, Multimedia, Public Relations Department at Keene State College in 2018. For students entering their junior or senior years and have declared journalism as a major. Students must be in good academic standing, maintaining a minimum GPA of 3.0 in journalism courses and demonstrate financial need. .
Elizabeth (Betsy) Walker Staples ‘51 World of Opportunity Scholarship
The Elizabeth (Betsy) Walker Staples ‘51 World of Opportunity Scholarship provides financial assistance and recognition to promising students with financial need enrolled at Keene State College. Learning, teaching, doing for, and giving back to others were the core tenets that guided Betsy’s life. A lifelong learner and voracious reader, these principles served to enrich Betsy through a career that included teaching and a lifetime of volunteer service. David B. Staples ‘55 M’60 created this scholarship to celebrate the extraordinary life of his late wife, Betsy, and to provide financial support and recognition to students so that they may earn a Keene State College degree and go on to experience a “world of opportunity.”
Frank H. Blackington, Jr. Language Proficiency Award
This award was established in 1964 by the family and friends of Frank H. Blackington Jr., who was a member of the Keene State College faculty for 41 years and who specialized in foreign languages. Consideration for this award shall be given to seniors who demonstrate exceptional foreign language proficiency. Recipients of this award shall be selected by the Keene State College Modern Language Department faculty in consultation with the Vice President of Academic Affairs and the Office of Student Financial Services.
Frank H. Blackington, Jr. Memorial Scholarship
Established in 1987 by the family and friends of Frank H. Blackington Jr., a member of the KSC faculty who specialized in foreign languages. Consideration for this annual scholarship shall be to students who have junior class standing or higher and who demonstrate proficiency in foreign language studies. Preference will be given to foreign language majors.
Fred L. Barry ‘36 Graduate Fellowship
In 1996, this fellowship was created in memory of Fred L. Barry ‘36 HD’80, who served in many capacities at the College during his long tenure (1948-77). Fellowships will provide recognition and financial assistance to students enrolled in a graduate level program at Keene State College who display a strong interest in administrative leadership or innovative approaches to their graduate field of study. The award will provide financial support for special projects which may be incorporated in, but are not restricted to, the culminating activities of a student’s graduate program.
Giovannangeli Family Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 1988 by the Giovannangeli family and their friends, in commemoration of the long-standing relationship between the family and the College. Applicants must be full-time students of junior or senior standing who are New Hampshire residents and who have demonstrated outstanding academic promise. Preference will be given to students who have been accepted into the teacher certification program. The committee will consider such qualities as financial need, academic excellence, qualities of leadership, and promise of future success.
Harry C. Tebbetts Scholarship
In 1971, this scholarship was created with a generous gift from F. Marion Tebbetts Wood ‘26 HD’90 in memory of her father. Students who have demonstrated excellence in scholastic achievement and who have financial need are eligible for this scholarship.
History Scholarship
This Scholarship has been established by former history faculty member James G. Smart with the primary motivation of providing financial support and encouragement to promising students majoring or minoring in history. Consideration for awarding this scholarship shall be based upon the following criteria: demonstrated finacial need; declared history major or minor; a GPA of 2.8 or better; preference to those demonstrating a willingness to be involved in social/political issues.
Jacqueline A. Abbott ‘58 Global Opportunities Fund…
This Fund was established by an anonymous KSC professor, who was fortunate over the course of his/her career to experience life in other countries and to expand his/her horizons through teaching, travel, and study abroad. The purpose of this award is to provide financial assistance to students engaging in study abroad. Consideration for this award shall be given to a full-time matriculated student with a minimum GPS of 3.0 prior to application to study away and are eligible to participate in a College-related education oportunity that will extend their learning to a diffferent country. Financial need may be taken into consideration but shall not be a limiting factor.
Jim and Mary Leonard Scholarship in Music
As life-long music enthusiasts, Jim and Mary Leonard desired to create this scholarship to encourage students to pursue rewarding careers in music. The purpose of this endowment shall be to provide recognition and financial assistance to music students at Keene State College. This scholarship may be used to recruit and/or retain exceptional music students. Consideration for this scholarship shall be given to full-time undergraduate students majoring in music or who have been formally accepted into the music program at Keene State College. Students receiving this award shall have, and maintain, a GPA of at least 3.0. Recipients of this scholarship shall be selected by a committee of Music Department faculty who shall make the selection based upon their assessment of each student’s excellence in music.
John ‘58 & Cynthia ‘57 Faust Scholarship
Created by the Faust’s, an alumni couple, the purpose of this endowment shall be to provide recognition and financial assistance to Keene State College juniors and seniors who have declared a major in one or more of the following: Elementary Education, Nursing, Safety Studies, Sustainable Product Design and Innovation, or Architecture.
Julia McHale Redfern Memorial Prize in Performing Arts
This endowment was established in 1989 as a memorial to his mother by former Keene State College President Leo F. Redfern and his wife Edmonde, to recognize and reward excellence and achievement in the performing arts. One award will be presented annually based on recommendations from any appropriate discipline and coordinated by the Dean of Arts and Humanities.
KEA Board of Trustees Scholarship
The Keene Endowment Association Board of Trustees has established this endowment to express their commitment to the education of Keene State students. The initial principal of the fund was contributed by the Keene Endowment Association Board of Trustees. Consideration for this scholarship shall be given to students who have demonstrated financial need. Preference shall be given to full-time undergraduate students. The amount of award per recipient may vary at the discretion of financial aid based on the unique financial needs of eligible students. The scholarship shall be awarded on an annual basis and may be rewed if the student continues to be qualified.
KSC Alumni Association Scholarship
This scholarship was established with funds from the Keene State College Alumni Association. The purpose of this endowment is to provide scholarships up to the cost of in-state tuition. These scholarships are available to students who demonstrate financial need and have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better. Preference will be given to the children of KSC alumni.
KSC Family Assistance Scholarship
This scholarship was developed to provide financial assistance to Keene State College students who show academic promise. Preference will be given to those applicants who have family members also enrolled at the College in the award year.
KSC Mathematics Faculty Scholarhip
This fund is created upon the retirement of longstanding members of the Mathematics Department faculty who retired from service in 2021, and honors all Keene State Mathematics faculty, past, present, and future. The purpose of this endowment shall be to provide recognition and financial assistance to students pursuing an undergraduate degree in Mathematics at Keene State College. The initial principal of this fund shall be given by Dr. Ockle Johnson, a member of the Keene State College Mathematics Department faculty from 1992 to 2021. Students must be a rising junior or senior, majoring in mathematics, maintan an overall GPA of 2.5 and have demonstrated financial need. Preference shall be given to students who are the first in their family to attend college.
KSC Student Memorial Scholarship
This endowment was established in 1976 by the Student Life Committee in memory of Valarie Shank and all other students who have died while attending Keene State College. The purpose of this fund is to provide scholarships to worthy students with demonstrated financial need. Students must have at least a 2.5 cumulative grade point average, have been an active member of a recognized student organization for one year, and at some time held an office in that organization.
Kenneth and Carol Swenson Jue Community Service Scholarship
Established by Ken and Carol Jue, both of whom have been extensively involved professionally and as volunteers throughout this region. They believe strongly that individual engagement and giving back are essential elements of a strong, healthy community. Awarding to students with financial need and who are highly engaged in community service.
Leona Day Henderson 1918 Scholarship
This endowment was established in 1981 with a gift from Warren Henderson in memory of his wife Leona Day Henderson ‘18. Two scholarships are awarded annually to a junior and senior who are New Hampshire residents, show outstanding promise as teachers, and have demonstrated academic excellence and leadership. Applicants must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.2 and be accepted into the teacher certification program. Given continued eligibility, a student may have this scholarship renewed.
Lora L Adams `73M Nutrition Scholarship
The purpose of this fund shall be to provide recognition and financial assistance to students pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in Health Science with a focus on Nutrition or Dietetics at Keene State College. This may include Dietetic Interns. The fund was established in honor of Lora L. Adams `73M, in recgnition of the foundational education she received in Home Economics, hoping that the scholarship will enable others to prepare for a lifetime of service in this field.
Lydia Pellerin Tolman ‘47 Memorial Scholarship
This fund was established in 1987 to honor Mrs. Tolman, a member of the Class of 1947. It was given in recognition of her belief in quality education and her desire that a KSC education continue to be affordable for future generations of students. Applicants must be full-time students of junior or senior class standing who have demonstrated outstanding promise as teachers and who have been accepted into a program of teacher certification. In general, the committee will consider such qualities as financial need, academic excellence, and promise of future success in teaching.
Margaret Ellen Siegert ‘84 Memorial Scholarship
This endowment was established in 1989 by family and friends of “Meg”, to assist students who wish to study for a semester or a year abroad. Applicants must be juniors or seniors with at least a 2.5 cumulative grade point average, be majoring in computer science, management (with a concentration in marketing), and/or psychology, and who displays academic excellence, leadership ability, and self motivation. The award committee will look with favor upon applicants who have demonstrated interest in travel, new cultures, improving interpersonal skills, expanding awareness of international business, etc.
Marion Frost Hudson ‘53 Memorial Scholarship
This endowment was established in 1975 through a bequest made by Doris Frost Hudson in memory of her sister Marion, an instructor in the English Department at Keene State College for 35 years. Students who are enrolled in an English-related curriculum are eligible for this scholarship.
Mary C. Leonard Scholarship for Students with Disabilities
Mary dedicated more than twenty years of her career in service to Keene State College and students with disabilities. Keene State and her students became like family to Mary and she wanted to give back to a place and to the people who meant so much to her. The purpose of this endowment shall be to provide financial assistance to students with documented disabilities at Keene State College. Consideration for this scholarship shall be based on need and given to full-time undergraduate students with documented disabilities attending Keene State College. Preference shall be given to those students exhibiting leadership qualities such as teamwork and volunteer service. Students receiving this award shall have, and maintain, a GPA of at least 2.5. Recipients of this scholarship shall be selected by the Office of Disability Services in coordination with the Office of Financial Aid.
Mary Sophia Nano ‘40 M’58 and Lester Shealy Memorial Scholarship
This fund was created by David and Tina Nano. David is the nephew of Mr.and Mrs. Shealy. The fund recognizes the Shealys’ service to the teaching profession and also recognizes family members who have served in Keene, NH schools. The purpose of this endowment shall be to provide recognition and financial assistance to students pursuing an Education degree, with first preference for students from Keene, New Hampshire.
Maxfield L. Young Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 1957 in memory of Maxfield L. Young, son of President and Mrs. Lloyd Young, who was killed in an automobile accident. The purpose of this fund is to provide scholarship aid to worthy, full-time students who need financial assistance to continue in college.
Megna Family Scholarship
This Scholarship has been established by Dorothy Reed Megna ‘58 and Nelson J. Megna ‘59. The primary motivation for doing so is to provide financial support and encouragement to promising students interested in becoming teachers. Consideration for awarding this scholarship shall be based upon the following criteria: Demonstrated financial need; Matriculation into the Teacher Education Program at Keene State College; and a GPA of 3.0 or better. Preference will be given to those demonstrating a commitment to community service and/or volunteerism.
Melvin Rosensaft Scholarship
This scholarship was established in honor of Melvin Rosensaft by family members, colleagues, friends, and the Markem Corporation. Melvin taught at Keene State College in the early 1980s. He made an outstanding contribution to the College and the community by providing a strong leadership program within the Management Department at Keene State College. This scholarship will provide recognition and financial assistance to juniors or seniors majoring in Management who have demonstrated academic achievement.
Michael D. Keller Memorial Award
This fund was established by faculty, students, and friends of Michael D. Keller, who was Dean of Arts and Humanities and a beloved teacher. The purpose of this fund is to support undergraduate students in the visual and performing arts such as dance, drama, and music.
Norma W. Walker ‘51 Scholarship
This endowed scholarship was established in 1997 by Norma Wright Walker ‘51, MEd ‘59 as an expression of her strong devotion to the importance of reading education. Consideration will be given to matriculated students enrolled in a graduate program in education at Keene State with preference given to students who have completed at least six credits in their program. The scholarship can be applied toward the tuition for an appropriate KSC graduate level course related to reading, children’s literature, or language arts (if the focus of the course is on reading); or it can be applied to an independent study, internship, or graduate project with a primary focus on reading.
Olive Frenette Jennison Award
This endowed award was established in 2005 by Edward Jennison in memory of his mother, Olive Frenette Jennison. The purpose of this endowment shall be to provide recognition and financial assistance to students who display scholastic proficiency with a penchant for environmental science. The award will be presented at the annual Spring Honors Convocation. A preference will be given to students who have achieved junior standing, at least a 3.0 GPA, major in Environmental Studies or Biology and displays a concern for the environment through their course selection, enrollment in a related minor, or an activity that provides evidence of such interest.
Peter Jenkins Memorial Scholarship
This endowed scholarship was established by colleagues, friends, and family of Peter H. Jenkins, Ph.D., Professor Emeritus of Management, in honor of his 25 years of service to the College. This scholarship is to recognize a student whose major course of study is Management or some individualized major which includes management. This full- or part-time student must be entering his/her senior year as an undergraduate or be a graduating senior who plans to continue on with graduate studies. Criteria is based on merit and financial need. The issue of merit will include grade point average as well as those qualities which Dr. Jenkins taught and lived - commitment to excellence, integrity, concern for humanity, and his famous “do something even if it’s wrong” philosophy.
Phi Lambda Chi Scholarship
The Phi Lambda Chi Scholarship Endowment was established in 1985 by the Keene State College chapter of the Sigma Lambda Chi fraternity. The fraternity has officially changed its name. The purpose of this endowment is to provide meaningful scholarship assistance to deserving Keene State College undergraduate students who are active members of the Phi Lambda Chi community. The scholarship award will be used for educational expenses, specifically tuition, mandatory fees, and room and board. The endowment will provide scholarships to students who are enrolled on a full time basis, have completed at least one full semester of active membership with the included organizational fee, and have a GPA of 2.0 or higher
Raymond ‘63 M’70 and Dorothy Martin Jobin ‘62 Scholarship
After Raymond ‘63 M’70 and Dorothy Martin Jobin ‘62 graduated from Keene Teachers College, they began their teaching vocations and, collectively, taught 84 years. Dorothy spent her career teaching kindergarten and first grade, while Raymond taught sixth grade and third grade and completed his final 18 years of teaching at Keene State College. In retirement, both volunteer for alumni reunions, serve as ushers at commencements, and continue to take interest in many college sports and music programs. Both are dedicated to college students and advancing KSC’s mission. This endowment is created in honor of Dr. Melinda D. Treadwell ‘90 to celebrate her appointment as the 11th President of Keene State College. Consideration for this award shall be given to students pursuing a four-year bachelor’s degree at Keene State College who have demonstrated financial need
Robert E Corrigan Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship is created in Mr. Corrigan’s memory by Travis M. Hodgdon ‘94, a first-generation college student, and his wife Gretchen A. Hodgdon. Mr. Hodgdon was a student of Mr. Corrigan’s and remembers his positive influence as a teacher and coach to this day. Preference shall be given to students who reside in Coos, Carroll, or Grafton Counties of New Hampshire. Consideration for this scholarship shall be given to students who: Are rising sophomores, juniors or seniors and are majoring in secondary education. Are New Hampshire residents. Exhibit proficiency in their studies by maintaining an overall GPA of at least 3.0. Have demonstrated financial need.
Robert Johnson, Sr. ‘42 and Alice Johnson ‘43 Student Teaching (Practicum) Scholarship Endowment
Robert L. Johnson graduated from Keene Teachers College in 1942 with a degree in Industrial Arts Education. Alice G. Johnson graduated from Keene Teachers College in 1943 with a degree in Home Economics. As lifelong residents of New Hampshire, they shared an enduring commitment to education in the state. This fund is created in their honor.The purpose of this endowment shall be to defray the cost of tuition and fees associated directly with participation in student teaching (practicum). Consideration for this scholarship shall be given to students who are participating in the student teaching (practicum) for regular Keene State College requirements for pre-school, elementary, or secondary school teacher certification as defined by the College’s Teacher Certification Program, who have demonstrated financial need and a preference shall be given to students whose permanent residence is the State of New Hampshire.
Rodney R. Adams ‘72M Memorial Scholarship
Established by the family of Rodney Adams in recognition of his lifelong commitment to education and his academic dedication to the field of Geology. Consideration of this award shall be given to students with finanical need, majoring in Geology with a minimum GPA of 2.5 with preference given to New Hampshire residents.
Samuel A. Martin ‘09 Memorial Scholarship
This fund was created in memory of Samuel A. Martin who was a 2009 graduate of the Safety Studies Program and member of the Rugby Club. The purpose of this fund shall be to provide recognition and financial assistance to students in the Safety Studies program. Consideration for this scholarship shall be given to full time sophomores, juniors and seniors and who have and shall maintain a GPA of 3.0 in safety courses. Preference will be given to members of the Men’s and Women’s Rugby Club.
Teacher Education Scholarship
This endowment, initially established by members of the class of 1941 at their fiftieth class reunion, has subsequently been “adopted” by the classes of ‘42, ‘43, ‘44, ‘49, ‘50, ‘51, ‘53 and ‘65’ in memory of classmate and longtime faculty member Dr. Glenna J. Donohoe Mize ‘65. Undergraduate students majoring in Teacher Education are eligible. Preference will be given to those who have demonstrated experience in student activities at the college, an ability to attain academic proficiency, an interest in and desire to work with school-age children, and financial need.
Wayne Hartz Scholarship
The Wayne E. Hartz Scholarship in Safety and Occupational Health Applied Sciences was created to provide financial assistance to full-time matriculated students who are Safety and Occupational Health Applied Sciences majors with the cost of for-credit summer internships.
Women’s Educational Opportunity Fund
This scholarship was created by bequest of an anonymous donor. The fund is intended to provide scholarship awards to students, preferably female, or traditional college age as well as older students seeking to improve their earning potential or their opportunities for career advancement.
