Backpacks to Briefcases
Backpacks to Briefcases is an LLC dedicated to professionalism. We strive to educate our peers on having a professional demeanor and becoming a diverse individual in the career world. It is time to get rid of the backpack and pick up the briefcase; teach other students to build a resume, perfect their hand shake and join in the community of the real world.
Cultural Infusion
The Cultural Infusion LLC is an invitation to explore unknown and beautiful worlds that may not be well known to those on campus. In this community, members will have the opportunity to learn, promote and enhance their cultural knowledge in several aspects of life (i.e. rituals, food, dance, art, music, etc.) We, as a society, tend to fall into one perspective, and once in that perspective, we are afraid of different and unknown things. With this community, people can explore, ask questions and learn more about cultures outside of our own. There is a whole world waiting to be experienced and this community will provide a stepping stone in reaching out to other cultures.
Community Service
This Living and Learning Community concept is to enhance our students' awareness of how they can contribute to the Keene community. Goals include getting more students involved in campus and community service activities, especially the incoming freshman, providing opportunities for fellowship, personal growth, and leadership skills and the development of positive role models for the campus community.
Future Educators
The Future Educators LLC provides members opportunities to share information that will help them to develop successful approaches to lesson planning, classroom management, and responding to student learning and behavior challenges. The LLC will enable its members to take what they are learning in their education classes and begin to apply them. Join us as we share ideas and books, go on educational field trips, watch inspiring movies about teachers, and support each other as well as newer students coming up through the Education program. All applicants must be admitted to the Teacher Education program or applying for admission during the year of being an LLC member.
Feminist Life
Feminism: The belief and associated movement devoted to achieving parity amongst both women and men in all aspects of life and society.
The Feminist Life community aims to promote feminist ways of thinking and acting by working with individuals, groups, commissions and organizations on and off the Keene State College campus. By exploring social issues through an intersectional, diverse, feminist lens we hope to affect positive social change regarding rights and equality in society. Both women and men from all backgrounds and statuses are encouraged to apply. Come view the world in a new light!
GLBT Educators & Advocates
The GLBT Educators and Advocates LLC serves as a safe haven for GLBT students and also aims to promote awareness, tolerance, and education on issues regarding the GLBT community. We strive to educate people on what it means to be gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgender in not only a college setting, but in everyday life. We also feel that it's really important to have a place on campus where GLBT students know they will feel safe, loved, and truly be themselves without having to worry about homophobia, harassment, violence, or judgment.
Honors
The Honors LLC provides self-identified high achieving students an environment that promotes learning and academic exploration, and encourages collaboration among students from a variety of majors and cultures. Honors students value academics, and are committed to excellence in a variety of disciplines.
The Honors LLC will promote education and learning throughout the campus and community, be highly engaged in activities and organizations, and promote global citizenship and cultural diversity by participating in academically challenging study abroad experiences. We will create programs that highlight and encourage diversity. In particular, we will work closely with the Global Education Office and international exchange students on campus to promote travel abroad by sharing our own experiences and work abroad. We hope to encourage other students to experience more of the world and become global citizens.
Leadership
The Leadership LLC is a place where students who are looking to enhance or even foster their leadership qualities can come together. Through this community, students can learn from their peers in other disciplines about how to use leadership in different ways. The community encourages students to take on leadership roles in the building, on campus, and in the community.
Literature Appreciation
The Literature Appreciation community is for people who like to read, either for academic purposes or just for fun. We welcome all students to join us, as long as you are open to reading new types of books and are reasonable about the noise level. Our activities will mainly revolve around book related activities, such as book swaps or discussions and community service projects associated with KSC Reads. We will also be running programs to promote reading in the community, and on campus. When you apply, make sure to tell us what your favorite book is!
Music
We provide a common place for music majors to come together and express ourselves both through music and common ground. Three primary goals are: 1. To reach out to people outside of the music department, and involve them in music. 2. To form a close bond with other music majors for knowledge in academic areas as well as to feed off of other musical influences. 3. To host both music and non-music related programs to include the rest of the Keene State community.
Psychology
The Psychology suite is an LLC designed for those interested in aspects of Psychology. Psychology is a large topic that ranges from areas such as mental illness, to why we can see in color. Through exploration, and conversation, our LLC will examine the field of Psychology through various hands on demonstrations and explanations. Some programs we would put on would be things such as, why we dream? How we as students can retain information better? And the scientific effects drugs have on your body, and a more in depth look at drugs that would stray people away from their use. Overall, this LLC is being made to help all students learn not only about the study of Psychology, but also more about themselves as human beings.
Strictly Ballroom
The concept of the Strictly Ballroom LLC is to provide a place for motivated students to express themselves through ballroom dancing and work together to share what they enjoy with the campus community. This would be an opportunity for students with varying experiences and abilities to share and educate others while continually exploring the world of ballroom dancing. It is also a way to show ballroom dance as a good form of exercise that can ultimately lead to a healthier lifestyle.
Wellness
Join the Wellness community and promote healthy choices at KSC. Through this Living and Learning experience, you’ll have the opportunity to learn about a variety of health and wellness topics and meet other students who are interested in making healthy choices regarding alcohol and other drugs, nutrition, fitness, stress management, sexual health, and much more. You’ll also receive training to become a Nationally Certified Peer Educator.
