Professional Activities

Jose Lezcano, Professor of Music, recently appeared as guitar soloist and composer in his Double Concerto for flute, guitar, and string orchestra, “Sojourners,” for the New York City & US premiere; with Lisa Hansen, flute, and Max Lifchitz conducting the North-South Consonance Orchestra (June 6, 2016). In May he performed duo recitals with Munich Philharmonic flutist Ivana Zahirovic-Negrerie (Munich & Trnava, Slovakia) and presented first performances of his Key West Suite arranged for flute & guitar; in March 3 - 5 he was guest artist at the North Carolina Bach Festival, performing the Bach Chaconne, and chamber works with Festival director Roman Placek; March 22, he performed a concert & premiered his Sonata for Cello & Guitar at the Havana International Cello Festival, with KSC Cello Instructor Rebecca Hartka. At the Redfern in April, he conducted the KSC Chamber Singers & Guitar Orchestra in the first performance of his Two Canticles for solo flute (with KSC student Amy Buonpane), Chorus, and Guitars. Dr. Lezcano’s Tango-Overture for Strings was recently accepted for publication by Cayambis Press, and the Amaral Duo recorded his guitar duo “Key West Suite” for their newly released CD, “Key West.”

Assistant Professor of Theatre and Dance Jeannie-Marie Brown (also artistic director of Stay Awake! Theatre) produced the Prism Festival, a two-week festival of original, thought-provoking, philosophically charged, and socially relevant 10-minute plays. Professor Brown also directed and performed in the Festival; she plays Claire in The Elephant and the Light in Claire’s Suitcase. The Prism Festival is an Equity-approved showcase featuring the work of sixteen playwrights, nine directors, and twenty-four actors. Performances are in the Off Off Broadway venue The Bridge Theatre.
