Professional Activities

Dr. Barbara Ware, Modern Languages, attended the 68th Annual Kentucky Foreign Language Conference on April 23-25, at the University of Kentucky in Lexington. She chaired the panel: “I-‘Object’!”: Negotiating Difference and Exoticism via Objectification. Her paper, “Aestheticizing Frames of the Modernista Imaginary”, discussed the Modernista poetry of Rubén Darío (Nicaragua) and Julián del Casal (Cuba) within the context of the speculative glance of the male and the resultant aesthetic framing of the woman.

Sharon Fantl has received a $4,000 grant from New England Foundation for the Arts. This award provides funds through the National Dance Project to support the presentation of Unstruck by Kate Weare Company. The presentation of Unstruck is made possible by the New England Foundation for the Arts’ National Dance Project, with lead funding from the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation and The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, with additional support from the National Endowment for the Arts.
