The performance will feature the KSC Clarinet Ensemble, Brass Ensemble, String Ensemble, Canticum Novum (vocal ensemble), and others. The recital will include a complete performance of J.S. Bach’s Cantata No. 61, with Canticum Novum and guest musicians, directed by Professor Sandra Howard.

Admission is free and the recital is open to the campus community and general public.

From Jim Chesebrough, Music:

Twenty years ago, KSC, Professor Douglas Nelson organized Keene’s first MERRY TUBACHRISTMAS. Nelson, at that time Chair of the Department of Music at Keene State College, began TUBACHRISTMAS Concerts in Keene, and since that time, hundreds of tuba players, both professional and amateur, have participated in this celebration of the holiday season and the heritage of this noble instrument.

This year, the free concert will be held on Sunday December 5 at 1:00 p.m. in the L.P. Young Student Center’s Mabel Brown Room. Dr. Jim Chesebrough, band director at Keene State College, will direct the twentieth Keene TUBACHRISTMAS. All area tuba and euphonium players are invited to perform. (Please, no instruments other than tubas, euphoniums, and baritone horns.) There will be a rehearsal in the same location as the concert at 10:30 a.m. Performers pay a $5.00 fee to the Harvey Phillips Foundation, which is a tax deductible, but the concert is free.
