KSC Concert Band Performs Fanfares, Airs, and Dances

The Keene State College Music Department is proud to present a concert by the KSC Concert Band, directed by Professor James Chesebrough, on Thursday, November 4, 2010, at 7:30 p.m., in the Main Theatre, Redfern Arts Center on Brickyard Pond.

The program features the world premiere of The Vibrance of Ordinary People by KSC music professor Heather Gilligan, who wrote the piece on commission from the Concert Band. The concert also includes Kirkpatrick Fanfare by UNH music professor Andrew Boysen, Jr., as well as music by Franz Beibl, Samuel Hazo, Johan de Meij, and Jan Van der Roost. KSC music student Kirk Bobkowski is the tenor soloist for Beibl’s Ave Maria. KSC music student and assistant conductor Nathan Shower conducts de Meij’s Lord of the Rings, excerpted from the composer’s Symphony No. 1. The program concludes with Van der Roost’s rousing Puszta - Four Gypsy Dances.

In addition, KSC Music alumnus Rob Westerberg ‘87 will be presented the 2010 Music Department Distinguished Alumni Award in a special ceremony.

Admission is $10 for the general public and $5 for KSC students, senior citizens, and youth ages 17 and under. KSC faculty and staff receive one complimentary ticket to this event.
