Coming to the Redfern: KSC Orchestra, Concert Band, Opera Workshop

The Keene State College Music Department presents the KSC Orchestra, directed by Don Baldini, in the ensemble’s final performance of the season, on Wednesday, April 21, at 7:30 p.m., in the Alumni Recital Hall, Redfern Arts Center.
The program features a wide selection of orchestral favorites, including the overture to Verdi’s Nabucco, “Variations on a Shaker Melody” from Copland’s ballet Appalachian Spring, Vaughan Williams’s Fantasia on Greensleeves, Manuel de Falla’s colorful “Ritual Fire Dance” from El Amor Brujo, and the Finale to Respighi’s The Pines of Rome. In addition, the orchestra will perform suites from America’s finest twentieth-century composers: Gershwin’s An American in Paris and Richard Rogers’s glorious South Pacific.
Admission is $10 for the general public and $5 for KSC students, senior citizens, and youth ages 17 and under.

The Keene State College Music Department presents the KSC Concert Band in “When Words Leave Off, Music Begins,” the ensemble’s final performance of the season, directed by Dr. James Chesebrough, on Thursday, April 22, at 7:30 p.m., in the Alumni Recital Hall, Redfern Arts Center.
The program features music from leading composers of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, including Astor Piazzolla, Charles Ives, John Williams, Samuel Adler, and Frank Ticheli. The evening’s soloists will be Professor Craig Sylvern, performing tenor saxophone on Piazzolla’s Oblivion, and Brian Campbell ‘10, performing alto saxophone on the title theme from Catch Me if You Can, a film scored by John Williams.
Admission is $10 for the general public and $5 for KSC students, senior citizens, and youth ages 17 and under.

The Keene State College Music Department presents “Opera Comes Alive,” a performance of the KSC Opera Workshop, directed by Dr. Carroll Lehman, on Friday, April 23, at 7:30 p.m., in the Alumni Recital Hall, Redfern Arts Center.
The performance will feature arias and ensembles from great operas in the history of music, including Beethoven’s Fidelio, Copland’s The Tender Land, Mozart’s Cosi fan Tutti and The Magic Flute, and Puccini’s La Boheme. Members of the Opera Workshop are Alyson Ryder, Kimberly Harte, Joseph McConaughy, Owen Davis, and Nicole Laperriere. Professor Robert Blake is the accompanist for “Opera Comes Alive.”
