Coming to the Redfern (and Colonial!): Voices, Guitar Orchestra and Latin Music Ensemble, An Evening of Dance, Romeo and Juliet

Inspired by vocal music’s great beauty and power, innovative composer/musician Philip Hamilton brings Voices, a dynamic, pan-global concert of original a cappella music to Keene State College’s Redfern Arts Center on Brickyard Pond on Tuesday, April 13, at 7:30 p.m. In addition to this performance, Hamilton and members of his nine-voice ensemble will conduct a lecture-demonstration on Wednesday, April 14, at 2 p.m. in the Redfern’s Alumni Recital Hall. The lecture-demonstration is free and open to the public. Tickets to the evening concert range from $25 for adults to $14 for children.

The Keene State College Music Department presents its Guitar Orchestra and Latin American Music Ensemble, directed by José Lezcano, in a joint concert on Wednesday, April 14, 2010, at 7:30 PM, in the Alumni Recital Hall, Redfern Arts Center on Brickyard Pond.

The Guitar Orchestra features music in a wide range of styles and time periods. There will also be a special performance of Lezcano’s newest work, So the Poet will be heard: Homenaje to Victor Jara for guitar ensemble and narrator (with KSC faculty member Patricia Pedroza). This work was commissioned by The Boston Guitar Society and Meet The Composer, and will receive its world premiere in early April at the Society’s Festival 21. The Latin American Music Ensemble will open the concert will a performance of Andean dances for panpipes, guitars, and charango.

Admission is $10 for the general public and $5 for KSC students, senior citizens, and youth ages 17 and under. Tickets will be available at the door, or call the box office at 603-358-2168.

Keene State College’s Theatre and Dance Department’s 37th annual “An Evening of Dance” concert will feature eight original works by KSC faculty and students and a guest artist. The performances will run April 14 to 17 at 7:30 p.m. in the Main Theatre of KSC’s Redfern Arts Center on Brickyard Pond.

This year’s performances continue a most eagerly awaited Keene State tradition that announces the advent of spring and presents an exciting collection of faculty, student, and guest artist choreography to inspire, enliven, and enrich the audience. Each of the eight works brings a new perspective, engaging and transporting viewers, and entertaining with the honest beauty of movement.

Works by faculty members Marcia Murdock, William Seigh, and Candice Salyers will be performed, as will dances by four seniors, Hannah Fluet, Angie Hartley, Rebecca Midler, and Renee Giardina.

Tickets for An Evening of Dance are $10 for the general public; $8 for KSC faculty and staff, seniors, and youth 17 and younger; and $6 for KSC students with ID. Tickets are available at the Redfern box office, 603-358-2168 or online at www.keene.edu/racbp.

The world’s greatest tragic love story will come to life when Keene State College’s Redfern Arts Center and Keene’s Colonial Theatre present William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet on Wednesday, April 14. Produced by the Acting Company and the Guthrie Theatre, the Colonial will host a performance for local schools at 9:30 a.m. and a public performance at 7:30 p.m.

Though the school performance is sold out, tickets are still available for the evening performance and range in price from $38 to $25 ( $5 for Keene State students with valid ID). To order tickets, call the Colonial box office at 603-352-2033 or visit www.thecolonial.org.
