Smartphone pilot study underway

From the IT Group:

The IT Group is excited to have launched a Smartphone Pilot Study.

  • The Smartphone Pilot Study is testing a new KSC smartphone syncing service to allow iPhones and Blackberry devices to sync over-the-air to KSC Outlook email, calendar and personal contacts.
  • Over-the-air syncing means pilot participants do not have to keep their desktop powered on and/or pilot participants do not have to manually sync their iPhone or Blackberry device to their desktop.
  • The Smartphone Pilot Study has 22 individuals from various positions and departments on campus and the pilot study runs from March until May 31.
  • The focus during the pilot study is to gain support experience, improve the service based on feedback from pilot participants, make needed changes, and conduct further technical testing.
  • By June 1, the IT Group will offer the new KSC smartphone syncing service to Principal Administrators, and other campus staff required to be available to the College 7x24 (i.e. Director of Residential Life and Director of Campus Safety.)
  • By June 30, the IT Group will offer the new KSC smartphone syncing service to faculty/staff.
  • There will be a license charge to use the KSC smartphone syncing service and the Smartphone Syncing Service Project Team is currently working with peer institutions to recommend a smartphone syncing service license funding model that fits KSC.
  • The KSC smartphone syncing service will be available only for Blackberry devices and iPhones.
  • At this point, the Smartphone Pilot Study is full.
