Keene State’s Director Of Nursing Among Excellence In Nursing Awards Honorees

Sharon Breidt Recognized

Sharon D. Breidt, head of the Nursing Department at Keene State College, is one of 13 professionals who will be honored in May at the 7th annual Excellence in Nursing Awards recognition gala in Concord.

New Hampshire Magazine and the New Hampshire Nurses’ Association present these awards to honor the unsung heroes of the state’s healthcare community. It is a way, the collaborating entities note, to bring to light how critical nursing is to achieving comprehensive healthcare.

Breidt, who joined the Keene State staff in 2019, coming from River Valley Community College, is the recipient in the program’s Professional Nurse Educator category. She has extensive experience as a nurse and a clinical educator. She holds an undergraduate degree from Trenton State College and a graduate degree from Walden University.

Nominations were accepted for New Hampshire nurses in designated vital specialties, from pediatrics and school nursing to leadership and education.

The gala is at the Grappone Conference Center on Wednesday, May 22, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The venue is at 70 Constitution Avenue.

Another area healthcare professional, Jennifer Osborne, is also an honoree, in the Maternal Child Nursing category. Osborne works at Cheshire Medical Center in Keene and has interactions with Keene State students during their clinical rotations in obstetrics.

Nominations were accepted for New Hampshire nurses in designated vital specialties, from pediatrics and school nursing to leadership and education. Winners were selected by an independent committee of nursing leaders from adjoining states.

Keene State nursing students earning a BS in nursing develop close working relationships with faculty through small class sizes and hands-on learning experiences. Internships and clinical placements are also part of the nursing education experience as is the chance to study in a state-of-the-art simulation lab with professors who use best practices in a fun, learning environment.

The Keene State Nursing Program is fully approved by the New Hampshire Board of Nursing.
