Civil Rights Leader Dr. Vincent Harding to speak October 14
Keene, N.H. 10/12/2010 - Civil rights leader Dr. Vincent Harding will speak on October 14 at 6:30 p.m. in the Redfern Arts Center Alumni Recital Hall at Keene State College.
Dr. Harding, an educator on civil rights, nonviolence and justice, will lead a community dialogue on “Dreaming a New America.” The program will include extensive time for discussion and questions following Dr. Harding’s opening remarks.
Currently professor of religion and social transformation at Illiff School of Theology in Denver, Colorado, Dr. Harding was an associate of the late Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King. He is the author of Martin Luther King: The Inconvenient Hero, among many other books, and has taught at the Pendle Hill Study Center at the University of Pennsylvania, Temple University and Spelman College.
Dr. Harding has been a longtime supporter of both the domestic and international movement for peace and justice including the Black freedom struggle. He was a director and chairperson of the Institute of the Black World, and served as the first director of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Center. He now works as Illiff’s co-chairperson of the Veterans of Hope Project: A Center for the Study of Religion and Democratic Renewal, and as Vice President of Institutional Transformation.
Dr. Harding’s talk in Keene is sponsored by Antioch University New England, Keene State College, Mothers Uniting and Pace e Bene Nonviolence Service NE, and will be free and open to the public.
