Classical Guitarist Lily Afshar to Appear at Keene State College
KEENE, 9/5/04 - The Iranian-born classical guitarist Lily Afshar will appear in concert at Keene State College’s Redfern Arts Center on Brickyard Pond, Wednesday, Sept. 22, at 7:30 p.m. Known around the world for her powerful and adventurous performances, Afshar is fulfilling Andres Segovia’s prediction that she would become “a beautiful celebrity.”
She has performed as a soloist with numerous orchestras and premiered works to sold-out halls in Europe, Asia, North and South America, Africa, and Australia. England’s Classical Guitar summed up a recent performance with one word: “Stunning.” The Cincinnati Inquirer said that “Her classical guitar casts a beautiful spell on all who hear her play.”
Tickets for the concert, which will be held in the Alumni Recital Hall, are available at the Brickyard Pond box office, 603-358-2168 or on the web at www.keene.edu/racbp. Tickets are $12 for the general public, $10 for seniors and KSC faculty and staff, $7 for youth 17 or younger, and $5 for KSC students with ID.
In addition to the concert, Afshar will hold an open rehearsal and workshop that is free to the public. It will be held in the Alumni Recital Hall from 2 to 3 p.m. on September 22.
