Gioia de Cari presents Truth Values:
One Girl's Romp through MIT's Male Math Maze

"If you see only one play this year about reflexive nonbinary relations, make it this one." — Los Angeles Times

Nonbinary algorithms and sexism collide in Truth Values, a painfully funny production about one woman’s struggle to navigate the male math maze. Inspired by the actual experiences of actress-playwright and “recovering mathematician” Gioia De Cari, this hilarious one-woman show follows De Cari’s misadventures as a female PhD candidate in the elite boys club of the M.I.T. math department.

Created as a response to former Harvard President Lawrence Summers' now infamous suggestion that women are less represented than men in the sciences because of innate gender differences, Truth Values is a true-life tale that offers a humorous, scathing, insightful and ultimately uplifting look at the challenges of being a professional woman in a male-dominated field. Performed barefoot on a bare stage with only a chair and small table, Gioia De Cari brings to life more than 30 characters in a hilarious and deeply touching performance that has earned raves from critics and stirred audiences to standing ovations.

This “appealing, nimble-witted performer” (The Boston Globe) presents a comical, caustic, perceptive, yet eventually uplifting glimpse of what it takes to be a professional woman in a male-dominated arena.
