Guitar Orchestra

Wednesday -

The Keene State Guitar Orchestra will present a varied program of works from the Baroque to the Modern Era. The program will include works by JS Bach: spiritual four-part Chorales and lively dance movements from the Orchestral Suite in B Minor , arranged for guitars; astringently lyrical duos and songs from Slovakia and Hungary, composed by the twentieth-century master composer, virtuoso pianist, and pioneering ethnomusicologist, Bela Bartok; and two rarely heard and stunning works, Sonatina and Adagio by Ludwig van Beethoven, originally composed for mandolin.

Also on the evening program is the six-movement Suite Española by the Spanish Baroque composer and guitarist, Gaspar Sanz, featuring popular dance music of 17th century Spain, culminating in the composer’s monster hit, the infectiously rhythmic Canarios. Members of the Guitar Orchestra include Alyssa Becker, Andrew Szmauz, Zach Dafeldecker, Professor Steven Harfenist of the Physics Department, under the direction of Professor Jose Lezcano, Coordinator of Guitar Studies.

This performance will be shown on Livestream only with no live audience.
