Keene State Men's Basketball Team Soars To Its Highest National ranking Ever at No. 8

The start to the Keene State College men’s basketball team’s season has been a bit of a blur, for opposing teams and for the Owls, who have raced to an impressive 8-0 start, and the program’s highest national ranking.

Th Owls moved up another six spots in the latest d3hoops.com top 25, released Monday.

Ryan Cain’s squad vaulted into the top 25 a week before, with a No. 14 ranking. Following a conference-opening win at Southern Maine Saturday, the Owls jumped six more spots.

Christopher Newport University remains No. 1 for the second week in a row, followed by St. Joseph’s (Conn.) and Wisconsin La Crosse. Each received first-place votes.

Keene State will try to open with nine consecutive wins for the first time in program history when it hosts conference rival Plymouth State Wednesday at 7:30 pm. Three times in its NCAA Division 3 years, Keene State has started 8-0.

Senior co-captain Jeff Hunter and sophomore co-captain Octavio Brito lead the Owls. Hunter scored his 1,000th career point Saturday in Maine, ranks second in the nation in double-doubles and is ranked top 10 in six other statistical categories.

Combined, Hunter and Brito are averaging 46 points a contest.

Plymouth State is 6-3 overall and 0-1 in the Little East Conference.
