Painter and Associate Professor of Art Peter Roos was among 15 visual and performing artists to receive a Ruth and James Ewing Arts Award. The Ewing Awards, sponsored by the Keene Sentinel and Arts Alive, honor local art supporters Ruth and James Ewing. James Ewing was also the former owner and publisher of the Sentinel. The awards aim to recognize excellence in a region well known for its creative culture.

“I’m very excited about being one of the recipients for the Ewing Arts Award,” Prof. Roos said. “I’m assuming that I was one of the 14 chosen because my work was of a certain quality, because I’ve been teaching at KSC for 25 years, and because I’ve been active in the Monadnock art community. … It certainly is an affirmation that what I’ve done up to this point deserves notice. I will continue to strive to improve my teaching, my artistic career, and service to the community.”

A reception and awards program are planned to honor these recipients on July 23 at the Redfern Arts Center. Read more about the award in the Sentinel.
