Emily Ardel’s Ceramics Series Selected by Gallery Visitors

Keene State College’s Thorne-Sagendorph Art Gallery is currently displaying works created by Keene State seniors who have earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts or Bachelor of Arts in its Emerging Art Exhibition. Gallery visitors were asked to cast votes for their favorite artist to receive this year’s People’s Choice Commendation Award. The Thorne Gallery is proud to announce the winner, Emily Ardel of West Hartford, CT. A total of 257 votes were cast. The last day of the exhibit is Saturday, May 9.

In describing the inspiration for her work, Ardel said, “I’ve always had a tie to baking – it brought my family together. My great-grandfather was a well-known chef, food was a form of art for him. I like to think that is where my artistic abilities came from. There are many similarities between preparing baked goods and ceramic pieces – it just made sense to pull the two together.”

“Emily’s ceramic work is inspirational, and we are proud of the work that all of our students contributed this year. The passion that this year’s graduating artists have for their work shows throughout the exhibit,” said Lynn Richardson, associate professor of Art at Keene State College.
