LISLE, ILL. 5/27/06 - Keene State’s {/athletics/bio.cfm?roster_id=783&isport;_id=17 Breanne Lucey} completed her collegiate track career in style by racing to All-American honors in the 1,500 and 5,000-meter events at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Benedictine University on Saturday.

Lucey, a senior from Keene, N.H., finished fifth in the 1,500-meter race (4:34.14) and came back two and a half hours later to place a strong second in the 5,000-meter event with a time of 17:17.17.

Lucey held the early lead in the 1,500, before falling back. She rallied with a strong sprint down the final straight a way to post her fifth place finish. Amber Druien, a junior from North Central (ILL.) College won the race in a stadium record time of 4:28.03.

Lucey and Williams College’s Caroline Cretti moved a way from the pack in the 5,000-meter race. Cretti took the lead for good in the final stages of the races, finishing with a stadium record time of 17:12.32. Lucey held on for her second place finish. KSC’s {http://www.keene.edu/athletics/bio.cfm?roster_id=774&isport;_id=17 Jennifer Adams}, who captured All-American honors with her fourth place finish in the 10,000-meter race on Thursday, struggled in the warm conditions and finished 15th with a time of 18:02.07.

“Bre was disappointed with her performance in the 1,500, but her second place finish in the 5,000 lifted her spirits,” said KSC coach Peter Thomas.

Lucey, the indoor national champion in the 800 and DMR, completes her KSC track career with four All-American plaques.

Earlier, freshman {http://www.keene.edu/athletics/bio.cfm?roster_id=1027&isport;_id=17 Samantha Hirsh} failed in her bid to earn her first All-American award in the javelin event. The Holliston, Mass., native hurt her knee during her first throw (127’-6”) and didn’t qualify for the finals. Lisa Brown of Gustavus Adolphus won the champions with a throw of 154’-6”.

The Keene State women finished with 17 points to tie the College of New Jersey for 13th place. Wisconsin-Oshkosh won the team championship with 52 points. Wisconsin-Lacrosse claimed the men’s title with 74.5 points.

Thomas said it was a fair championship for his Owl team. “We got three All- Americans, so that was nice,” he said. “But I think everyone will come home feeling they could have done a little better.”
