Keene State College to Host Symposium: "What Sustains Us? Envisioning Our Future"

Seventh Biennial Symposium Features Nationally Renowned Speakers; Open November 2-4

Keene, NH, October 31, 2011: Keene State College will host its seventh biennial symposium that will explore and evaluate sustainability in the context of society’s changing lifestyles and the prolific growth that threaten social justice and compromise ecological integrity. Nationally renowned speakers will present their research and views on the subject. Keene State will also host a Sustainability Fair on Friday, November 4 from Noon - 4 p.m., featuring organizations such as Monadnock Conservancy, Stonewall Farm, Transition Keene, and City of Keene Cities for Climate Protection Committee.

Symposium Speakers:

Kenny Ausubel, Co-CEO and Founder of Bioneers. Kenny is an award-winning social entrepreneur, author, journalist and filmmaker. He served as a central advisor to Leonardo DiCaprio’s feature documentary, The 11th Hour.

David W. Orr, author and Paul Sears Distinguished Professor of Environmental Studies and Politics and a James Marsh Professor at the University of Vermont. David is a scholar, teacher, and entrepreneur. He is the author of six books, including his latest “Hope Is and Imperative: The Essential David Orr”

Juliet Schor will provide the opening keynote. She is a researcher and board member and co-founder of the Center for a New American Dream, an organization dedicated to transforming North American lifestyles to make them more ecologically and socially sustainable.
