Keene State College to Host Former U.S. Congressman Buddy Roemer on Campus for Presidential Campaign Visit

Keene, NH, September 22, 2011: On September 29, Keene State College will host former Louisiana U.S. Congressman and former Louisiana Governor, Buddy Roemer, as part of his 2012 presidential campaign bid. Keene State College students will discuss today’s American democracy in several classes, with Roemer as a guest speaker.

Keene State College is a participant in the American Democracy Project for Civic Engagement (ADP), which is a multi-campus initiative that encourages informed engagement with our democratic system. Keene State College’s ADP program is helping to provide students with access to Roemer to discuss critical issues impacting our country’s political system today.

Roemer will visit Keene State College classes from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and will be available to the press from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the Student Center Lantern Room. Roemer will make a public speech at 7 p.m. in the Mabel Brown Room at Keene State College.

“Our country’s political system is under more scrutiny then ever - it’s important that we think critically about how it’s working and discuss how we can make it better as citizens,” said Keene State College American Democracy Project Program Coordinator, Kim Schmidl-Gagne. “We are pleased to host Mr. Roemer on our campus, and grateful for his participation in this important dialogue. The 2012 presidential candidate visits present our students with the opportunity to engage politicians in meaningful discourse then apply it in their life and work.”

In advance of his visit, Roemer shared a message to students: “I am looking forward to the opportunity to speak with and hear from young voters. The lack of American jobs will impact your generation more than any other.”
