Keene, NH, August 28, 2011: This morning, Keene State College has updated preparation for Hurricane Irene to ensure the safety of students, faculty, staff and our community. Keene State College’s Crisis Management Team continues to watch the storm closely.

Student move-in today continues to be strongly discouraged.

Today, Keene State College will close the Zorn Dining Commons from 12:00 Noon until 6 p.m., and re-open from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., after the eye of the storm has passed. Spaulding Gym will remain closed. The Student Center will be open for emergencies only from 12:00 Noon to Midnight. Students are strongly encouraged to get food and drink that is needed from 10 a.m. to Noon.

Decisions will be made about Monday classes by 6 a.m. tomorrow after potential damage by the storm has been assessed. Plans will be shared at www.keene.edu, Keene State College’s Facebook page, and at MyKSC from the College’s home page.

For longer-term shelter, off-campus students are encouraged to go to the Keene Recreation Center at 312 Washington Street if deemed safe to be outdoors. The Keene Recreation Center will be staffed by the Red Cross, and will have beds and food available.

Parents are encouraged to urge students to stay inside during the storm. For updates on road closings due to the storm, call 866-282-7579.
