Keene State College Updates Preparations for Hurricane Irene to Ensure the Safety of Students, Faculty, Staff and the Community

Keene, NH, August 27, 2011: Keene State College continues preparations for Hurricane Irene to ensure the safety of students, faculty, staff and our community. Keene State College’s Crisis Management Team continues to watch the storm closely. Student move-in is strongly discouraged tomorrow. At this time, Keene State College has a plan to close the Student Center, Zorn Dining Commons, and Spaulding Gym at 6 p.m. on Sunday. The Student Center will be open for emergencies only after 6 p.m. and Spaulding Gym will be available for emergency shelter only after 6 p.m. This plan is likely to change and decisions will be made as to Monday’s classes as the storm nears our state. By noon tomorrow further updates to plans will be shared at www.keene.edu, Keene State College’s Facebook page, and at MyKSC from the College’s home page.

For longer-term shelter, off-campus students are encouraged to go to the Keene Recreation Center at 312 Washington Street if deemed safe to be outdoors. The Keene Recreation Center will be staffed by the Red Cross, and will have beds and food available.

Parents are encouraged to urge students to stay inside during the storm. For updates on road closings due to the storm, call 866-282-7579.
