Preparations Underway for Hurricane Irene at Keene State College

Keene, NH, August 26, 2011: In anticipation of landfall of Hurricane Irene and the impacts of the storm on the community, Keene State College President, Helen Giles-Gee, issued the following statement about Keene State College’s preparations.

“We are following Hurricane Irene closely. The safety of our students, faculty, staff, and community is our highest priority. The Keene State College Campus Emergency Operations Team is meeting daily and as needed to determine the best course of action as the storm develops. Information and updates can be found on our webpage, which will be updated daily at approximately 2 pm Eastern, and through the Keene State College email and emergency notification system if needed.

“We have encouraged move-in of students on Saturday so that our students and families will not need to travel on Sunday, when the storm is expected to arrive in New Hampshire. Our facilities department has been preparing for the storm, and we have an emergency plan ready that includes a temporary evacuation plan for students living in residence halls located in low-lying areas of the campus,” concluded President Giles-Gee.

More information and updates are available at www.keene.edu and on our Facebook page.
