Help Tornado Victims in Joplin

IRN (Institutional Recycling Network), a non-profit full-service recycling/re- use firm that works closely with Keene State and other campuses to help us donate used furniture and equipment to needy communities around the world, has contacted us for help in their Joplin tornado relief efforts. IRN’s non-profit partner for Joplin, Feed The Children, is based out of Oklahoma City. They work with dozens of domestic and international charities, and are partnering with Operation Compassion for the large efforts at Joplin. These two charities specialize in infrastructure development.

IRN has already shipped a variety of supplies to help those affected by the tornadoes in Joplin, but they need more. The KSC Surplus Property program will be providing surplus furniture, and R.O.C.K.S. will be sending all useful items left over from the Freesale, but we need your help collecting the following items:

  • Clothing
  • Bedding
  • Personal hygiene supplies, such as unopened tooth paste and tooth brushes, new hair brushes, etc.
  • Small appliances, such as hair dryers, toasters, etc.
  • Kitchenware, including plates, cups, pots & pans, silverware, etc.

All items must be clean and boxed and in good working/wearable condition.

Please bring items you’d like to donate to the Madison Street Lounge in the Young Student Center from Monday, June 20, through Wednesday, June 22, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. These items will then be sorted and loaded onto tractor trailers for Joplin.

Volunteers are also needed to help sort the items - Please contact Heather Greenwood or Mary Jensen at 358 - 2567 if you can lend a hand with sorting and packing on 6/23 & 6/24.

Thank you for helping the people of Joplin re-build their lives. NOTE: We’re not forgetting our neighbors in Springfield, Mass. So far, we’ve received no requests for aid from them. If we do, we’ll route some of our donations to that community.
