KSC Student's Photo Exhibit Opens at Student Center

KEENE, N.H., 4/11/11 - STRONG LIKE A RIVER: Photographic Images by Silas “Sy” Bennett ‘09, a Keene State College student who succumbed to cancer in 2007, will be on exhibit Monday, April 18 through Thursday, April 28, in the KSC Student Center, Lantern Room. The exhibit will include a video “The Man Behind Sy’s Fund” produced by Bennett’s mother Lorraine Kerz in collaboration with Hani Matkovic, a professional photographer and friend of Bennett. A reception will take place Thursday, April 21, from 4 to 7 p.m.

The exhibit encompasses 15 framed photos taken by Bennett, a journalism major at Keene State, who was diagnosed with stage IV cancer just days before his 29th birthday.

“After his cancer diagnosis, Silas continued his journalistic work; first bravely documenting his life on video, and then turning to photojournalism,” his mother said in an exhibit label. “Through his photographs, Silas documented everything from the raw emotions of family members to the beauty of spring blossoms flowering as his young life waned.”

The exhibit and reception are free and open to the public. For further information, contact the Student Center Information Desk at 603-358-2850
