Owl Women Swimmers Reclaim LEC Title
NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA, 12/2/06 - After a two-year absence, the Little East Conference women’s swimming and diving championship plaque is returning to the Spaulding Gym trophy case.
The Owls, who set eight meet records and four school records, reclaimed the title with a dominating victory at the championships held at the Tripp Center Pool in North Dartmouth on Saturday. The KSC team, who won all but two swimming events, finished with 553 points. Plymouth State placed second with 263 points. Defending champ UMass-Dartmouth came in fourth with 235 points.
KSC won the first three LEC titles for 2000-02. A storm canceled the 2003 meet, and UMass-Dartmouth claimed the championship the past two years.
“Once the meet started, I thought we’d win pretty handily,” said KSC first- year coach Jack Fabian. “Everyone was swimming so well. It’s nice to bring the championship back to Keene.”
Freshmen Kristine Trutor (Holden, Massachusetts) and Alea Paddock (Newbury, New Hampshire) had big days in the pool for the Owls. Trutor set meet and Owl records with her wins in the 100 back (1:01.28) and 200 back (2:14.99) races. The 100 back record had been in the books since 1986. Paddock set her meet and school record in the 200 breast (2:33.92). She also set a meet record in the 100 breast (1:11.65).
Two seniors, Katlin Pryor (Jaffrey, New Hampshire) and Devon Trabilsy (Hillsborough, New Jersey) also had record-setting days. Pryor set her meet and school record in the 1,000 free (10:55.10). She also set a meet record in the 500 free (5:20.54). Trabilsy set a meet record with a winning time of 4:52.29 in the 400 individual medley. Kelly Yankowski (Turners Falls, Massachusetts), Kelly Widman (Middlebury, Connecticut), Paddock, and Pryor together set a meet record in the 400 free relay (3:48.44).
