Registration Opens for August Courses at Region I OSHA Education Center

KEENE, N.H. 7/6/06 - Region I (New England) OSHA Training Institute Education Center, Manchester, N.H., is accepting registrations for five August courses. The Institute is authorized by the U.S. Department of Labor Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Keene State College’s Office of Continuing Education.

Trainer Course in Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the Construction Industry (500) qualifies students to become authorized OSHA 10- and 30-hour construction outreach trainers. Bidding contractors and construction workers often must possess a minimum of an OSHA 10-hour Construction Outreach card. Prerequisites to becoming an outreach trainer include having five years’ experience in construction safety, a 30-hour OSHA Construction Outreach card, or equivalent. The course is scheduled for Aug. 21-25 in West Haven, Conn.

Permit-Required Confined-Space Entry (2264) teaches students to recognize, evaluate, prevent, and abate safety and health hazards associated with confined space entry. Field trip and optional confined space field exercise included. Scheduled for Aug. 7-10, the class is taught in Keene, N.H.

Mobile Crane Hazards: Train-the-Trainer (NCSH 214) focuses on managing mobile cranes on construction job sites. The Aug. 28 course is taught in Manchester, N.H.

Industrial Ventilation (NCSH 442) identifies key factors in design and testing of mechanical and natural ventilation systems. The July 31-Aug. 2 class is taught in Keene, N.H.

Radiation Protection (NCSH 443) teaches assessment and control of human health hazards associated with sources of ionizing radiation (radioactive materials, nuclear reactors and accelerators, and x-ray machines). Scientific calculators are needed for half-life and radiation shielding calculations. Running Aug. 2-4, the class is scheduled in Keene, N.H.

Per-person tuition for OSHA courses is: 500 and 2264, $725; NCSH 442 and 443, $425; NCSH 214, $170. Group discounts for five or more students to attend one course are available, as is on-site training for groups of at least 10 or more participants.
