Keene State Announces Athletic Awards

KEENE, N.H. 4/30/06 - Eric Momnie was named Keene State College’s male Athlete of the Year and Breanne Lucey and Meghan McLoughlin were selected as female Athletes of the Year at the College’s 2005-06 Athletic Awards Dinner held Sunday night at Spaulding Gym.

In addition, Laura Ahern was the recipient of the Scholar-Athlete Award and the Keene State women’s swim/dive team and men’s cross country squad were presented with the Don Carle Award for having the highest GPA among Owl teams. Because the athletic season is not completed, players from the previous spring are eligible for awards.

A four-year member of the Keene State men’s lacrosse team, Momnie capped his Owl career last spring by becoming the first player in the program’s history to earn All-America (honorable mention) honors. The senior attack player from South Windsor, Conn., was named the Little East Conference’s offensive player of the year after topping the team in scoring (49 goals, 18 assists, and 67 points) and leading Keene State to its first LEC championship and NCAA berth. He completed his career as KSC’s all-time leader in goals (158) and points (240).

Lucey excelled on the soccer field and track for Keene State this year. The Keene, N.H., native was a two-time national champion in the 800-meter and distance medley relay at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field championships. She also earned All-Division, and All-New England Division III honors and was a four-time champion (600 and 1,000-meters, 4x400-meter relay, 4x800-meter relay) at the LEC/Alliance meet. A first-team All-LEC selection in soccer, Lucey, a forward, helped lead KSC to the 2005 ECAC New England championship.

One of the Owls’ all-time top pitchers, McLoughlin completed her stellar softball career by pitching Keene State to the LEC championship and the finals of the NCAA Northeast Region tournament last spring. The two-time Little East pitcher of the year and All-Region hurler posted a 15-4 mark with a school record 0.21 ERA. McLoughlin, from Brattleboro, Vt., also holds KSC’s career ERA (0.39) record and is second all-time in wins (39).

A junior from Concord, N.H., Ahern is a dean’s list student majoring in elementary education/psychology and a valuable member of the Keene State track team. Ahern, who spent last semester at the University of Queensland in Australia, competes for the Owls in the 100 and 200-meter and relay events. An All-LEC sprinter for the Owls, she earned All-LEC relay honors in the 4x200 (indoors) and 4x400 (outdoors) and recently helped set a new KSC outdoor record in the 4x100 relay.
