Registration Opens for June Courses at Region I OSHA Education Center

KEENE, N.H. 4/28/06 - Region I (New England) OSHA Training Institute Education Center, Manchester, N.H., is accepting registrations for seven June courses. The Institute is authorized by the U.S. Department of Labor Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Keene State College’s Office of Continuing Education.

Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the Construction Industry (510) covers OSHA’s construction safety and health standards, focusing on recognizing and addressing hazards. Upon completion, students receive an OSHA 30-hour Construction Outreach Training card, a prerequisite for OSHA #500 Trainer Course in Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the Construction Industry. The course runs June 12-16 in West Haven, Conn.

Trainer Course in Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the Construction Industry (500) qualifies students to become authorized OSHA 10- and 30-hour construction outreach trainers. Bidding contractors and construction workers often must possess a minimum of an OSHA 10-hour Construction Outreach card. Prerequisites to becoming an oOutreach tTrainer include having five years’ experience in construction safety, a 30-hour OSHA Construction Outreach card, or equivalent. The course is scheduled for June 19-23, in Providence, R.I

Occupational Safety and Health Standards for General Industry (511), for private-sector personnel, covers OSHA policies, procedures, and standards, and general industry safety and health principles. After successfully completing the course, students receive an OSHA general industry safety and health 30- hour course completion card. The June 5-9 course is held in Providence, R.I.

Upon completing the Trainer Course in Occupational Safety and Health Standards for General Industry (501), students may become authorized to conduct OSHA 10- and 30-hour General Industry Outreach courses. Prerequisites include five years’ general industry safety experience, OSHA 30-Hour General Industry Outreach card, or equivalent. This June 26-30 course runs in Providence, R.I.

Respiratory Protection (2225) covers requirements for establishment, maintenance, and monitoring of a respirator program. Highlights include laboratories on respirator selection, qualitative-fit testing, and hands-on training in use of respiratory and support equipment. Participation in the qualitative-fit testing lab requires medical approval to wear a half-mask air-purifying respirator. The June 5-8 course is scheduled for Keene, N.H.

Fall Arrest Systems (3110), covering state-of-the-art technology for fall protection and current OSHA requirements, features a one-day field exercise demonstrating fall protection equipment. Personal protective equipment is required for the field trip. Running June 5-8, the course is planned for Manchester, N.H.

Recordkeeping Rule (7845) identifies employer’s responsibilities for posting certain records, maintaining records of illnesses and injuries, and reporting specific cases to OSHA. The June 9 half-day workshop is planned for Manchester, N.H.

Tuition for OSHA courses 500, 501, 510, 511, 2225, and 3110 is $725/person. For OSHA course 7845, the cost is $100/person. Group discounts for five or more students to attend one course are available, as is on-site training for groups of at least 10 or more participants.
