Keene State Graphic Design Seniors Show Portfolios April 21

KEENE, N.H. 4/14/06 - Keene State College seniors majoring in graphic design will open their portfolios for public review on Friday, April 21, from 3 to 7 p.m. in the Mabel Brown Room of the Lloyd P. Young Student Center at Keene State.

Members of the local business community are encouraged to attend the event and review the portfolios of these 25 graphic design seniors, who are prepared for design-related careers such as publishing, advertising, web design, and multi- media graphics. Students’ friends and family and community members also are invited to the portfolio review, which is free. Refreshments will be served. For further information, call the KSC Department of Art at 603-358-2040.

Graphic design has become such a popular major at KSC that applicants to the program must now submit design work samples. In addition to portfolios, some seniors will be using computers to show their design work, said graphic design instructor Robert Kostick, who is coordinating the portfolio review.

The portfolio review showcases the best design work each student has produced while pursuing a bachelor of arts or a bachelor of fine arts degree at Keene State. Graphic design students are required to take a portfolio seminar in which they prepare a professional presentation of their work. During this class, seniors may develop new pieces and refine work completed in other art and graphic design classes.

The portfolio review coincides with an opening reception hosted by Friends of the Thorne for “Emerging Art,” the annual KSC art students’ exhibition, on Friday, April 21, from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. at the gallery. Bachelor of fine arts candidates, seniors, and other students majoring in art and graphic design will exhibit their paintings, drawings, prints, sculpture, and ceramics, as well as posters, advertising and packaging designs, promotional pieces, and books. The exhibition will be at the Thorne-Sagendorph Art Gallery at Keene State College April 17 through May 7.

The portfolio review and exhibit are free and open to the public. For exhibit information, call the Thorne Gallery at 603-358-2720 or visit www.keene.edu/tsag.
