KSC Hosts Annual Academic Excellence Conference

KEENE, N.H. 3/20/06 - Keene State College will host the Academic Excellence Conference on Saturday, April 1. The conference, now in its sixth year, is designed to encourage the exchange of ideas among students and to increase the visibility of students’ academic work and the collaborative work between students and faculty. The event takes place in the College’s Science Center and Student Center. Opening remarks are at 9 a.m., with the first presentations beginning at 9:25 a.m. The last presentations begin at 4:25 and end at 4:55 p.m. President Giles-Gee will give the luncheon keynote address.

This year there are 79 presentations from 24 academic areas, with topics including Music Performance Anxiety; The Upside Down Pythagorean Theorem; Political Fiction as an Instrument of Social Critique and Change; Feminist Voices from the Middle East; Dendritic Ionic Liquids: Another Step toward Green Chemical Processes; Concepts of Civilization and Savagery in a Sixth Grade Curriculum; Hope, Spirituality, and Health in HIV Positive Individuals: A Biopsychosocial Approach; Freeing Themselves: The Role of Blacks in the British and American Abolitionist Movements, 1760-180; and many others.

The Academic Excellence Conference is a shared commitment between Academic and Student Affairs in support of student academic enhancement and success. The conference is co-sponsored by the Honors and Enrichment Program, the Student Center Office of Programs and Leadership Development, and the Student Assembly.
